Waters or discharge? Sorry for TMI

I'm nearly 35 weeks pregnant and for the last few days I've had very heavy vaginal discharge, soaking my underwear and am now having to wear a liner which gets very damp. I can actually feel liquid coming out, with DD my waters went with a gush so am not sure what to make of it, but it's definitely not wee and it's very watery.
Should I get checked out or am I over reacting? I've also been having lots of Braxton hicks and bad pelvic pressure.
Thanks in advance for any help .

my daughter had something similar last week, the midwife said if the liner stays wet or damp,to go back in and they would take a look,as leaking waters can cause an infection. So be on the safe side i would go along and yourself checked out.

I've had this too and thought it was just one of the downsides of pregnancy. I've googled and this is what i came up with

www.buzzle.com/articles/watery-discharge-during-pregnancy.html

www.babyandbump.com/pregnancy-third-trimester/96878-watery-discharge-tmi.html

It seems quite common but if you're worried call your midwife.

Am 37+4 and I have had this too, been to hospital twice and they say waters have not broken. Hind waters broke at 30 weeks with DS, then full waters broke with a huge torrent at 33 + 6, he was delivered naturally that evening. I have been assured its just discharge or urine this time (it doesnt smell and is clear) Who knows what mother nature is up to!!....................

GlitteryBalls · 07/12/2010 13:46

I am 35 weeks today. For the last week I haev had this - one day it was so bad I soaked my knickers through twice (sorry [blush}) and it was watery, not creamy or bloody or anything. I was seeing the midwife the day after so I mentioned it to her and she siad at around our time discharge increases and gets a lot more watery. She says that as long as it is not trickling or gushing out it is just increased normal vaginal discharge. She also said that the "show" would have the texture of egg white (nice!) so it was not likely to be that either. Basically sounds exactly what I've been having and we're both as far gone as one another, but mention it to your MW just in case if you're concerned.

GlitteryBalls · 07/12/2010 13:49

Oh and I've also been having lots of Braxton Hicks. Think it's just one fo the perils of being 35 weeks!

jabberwocky · 07/12/2010 13:54

I would get it checked. As jjkm said they do a really quick test as even the docs can't tell for sure. It really is better to err on the safe side.

ClarasMummy · 07/12/2010 16:48

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Rang the ante natal ward last night about it and was spoken to like I was a child and basically made to feel like I was over reacting. I have a scan tomorrow so will wait to see what the Doctor says, baby is moving fine but have been having pretty bad period type pains since this morning.
Will just have to wait and see.

One thing I remember distinctly is that your waters contain little fine hairs (from when the baby is covered in them!) and when my waters broke, I could see them all over my knickers!

GlitteryBalls · 07/12/2010 17:27

What a shame you had a bad experience with ringing, I have rung before about something that turned out to be nothing to worry about, but they were really nice all the same. I would have thought an attitude like that isn't helpful as after all we are less knowledgable than them so how can we tell when something is a cause for concern or not? What a shame. Sad At least they don't feel it is anything to worry about then I suppose.

ClarasMummy · 07/12/2010 17:48

Really Milanomum? I had no idea there could be hairs, never heard that before. Though when waters went with DD I did over react a little and were out the door in minutes so didn't really check Smile
I know Glittery I feel like I get patronised alot in this pregnancy, especially by my midwife, not long to go though and hopefully the Doctor will listen to me tomorrow.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but would an ultrasound be able to detect leaking waters?

Sorry you got treated as if it's nothing. The scan will detect low fluid (but not if it's leaking).

I am surprised tbh that they didn't take it more seriously. I had something like this at 30w and it was fluid (not much of it but enough to leave the baby short) so I was monitored from then on.

I'd take a pad in for them to check if you can (one of the cheap ones, my midwife said, or the chemicals mean the tests don't work).

I had this a few weeks ago, at 35 weeks. It's worrying, isn't it. Mine wsa pink as well.

I went in to the hospital (got really upset Sad) but it wasn't my waters, or if it was they'd resealed. They did a smear and turned out I had no infections either so just one of those things?

An ultrasound would be able to tell if you had low water, so in a way, yes.

GlitteryBalls · 08/12/2010 15:52

Lol at milanomum and the hair thing - it has made me hyper-paranoid. I just went to the loo and spotted a hair in the bowl. I immediately thought that my waters had gone - then I remembered that I actually have a few hairs down there myself (haven't seen them for a while) so was probably just a one of mine! Grin

ClarasMummy · 09/12/2010 20:08

GlitteryBalls I keep doing that now! Grin Time for a pre birth wax me thinks...

Went for a scan yesterday, fluid level was "average" but the Doctor refused to examine me and it does seem to have slowed down so it was probably just heavy discharge.

Thanks all for the help Smile

This happened to me, I got checked and it turned out waters had ruptured 11 days previously and was induced there and then. There was no trickling/running at all, I was told it was a tiny tear but enough to require induction. Am sorry they have been unhelpful, I would insist on being checked. Best of luck.

GlitteryBalls · 10/12/2010 19:17

I have thought about going for a wax. I used to epilate but can't reach/see it now! But I have a feeling that the pain would send me into early labour! I have such a low pain threshold, god knows how the birth is going to go!

ClarasMummy · 12/12/2010 12:10

I know what you mean GlitteryBalls, never been for a wax before but something must be done! I can't even bring myself to see what the situation is down there Grin.

Thanks for the help deedee321, my Doctors and Midwife have been particularly unhelpful during this pregnancy and as I am considered "High Risk" I find this pretty troubling, starting to panic about the birth a little now as well but short of changing hospitals, and the one I'm attending is very close to home, I'm not sure what I can do.

Baby boy is moving fine and the leaking has slowed so all seems well for now.

GlitteryBalls · 12/12/2010 15:52

If it's any reassurance we seem to be getting the same sort of thing at the same time. The very watery discharge has slowed down for me too, and I have also been getting lots of period-type pain on and off but it never comes to anything. I think everything is sort of getting ready, but I think we will know for sure if our waters go/we are getting contractions! Apparently the inc. discharge is designed to kind of clean out the birth canal beforehand so it has a purpose that kind of makes sense!

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 12/12/2010 16:05

If you are high risk or even considered so, they ought to be much more concerned by your concerns IMO Angry

I ran for a blood test when I was pg with Dd and thought my waters had gone too...the only thing was that I wasn't that far gone. I was taken very seriously and had a scan, internal and the following few days/week steroid injections. As it happened, Ds waited until 41 weeks, but the mat unit were fabulous in my treatment.
