2nd trimester... feel nothing?

I'm 15 and a half weeks and I know it's too early to feel anything but it's just weird to not have any reminders that the little bean is still swimming around in there.

I had the scan three weeks ago and saw it waving around so I know it's OK but I think I need a little reassurance that this is normal?

My morning sickness left at about 10 weeks, I'm not showing except for some extra fat, and I just feel normal.

Do most people have a weird early 2nd trimester period like this when they feel un-pregnant?

Well firstly - lucky you for losing your morning sickness at 10 weeks! Envy I kept mine until it eased between 14 and 15 weeks. Like you though between the time my morning sickness eased the baby kicking started (which for me was 20 weeks) I worried about what was going on down there. I also felt fat rather than pregnant until at about 19 weeks when my students started noticing my fat and concluded that I was pregnant which made me feel much better since children aren't bound by the same social rules as adults and will actually comment if you start to look pregnant - I'm sure many women who have put on weight can vouch for this.

Enjoy this time while you can... in no time you will be complaining of not being able to sleep well, constant indigestion even at the thought of food and all those other things us pregnant women have to deal with! Xmas Smile

i was exactly the same and found it very wierd. At 17 weeks I started to feel the baby move but there are still days where I completely forget that I'm pregnant. I'm 18+5 now and am hoping my bump starts to become a bit more visible soon - its there but not obvious once I'm dressed.

chester21 · 04/12/2010 12:24

Hi argylesocks, i know exactly how u feel, in a way i am exactly the same as you as i am not sure if the poppin sensations i was feeling was wind or my little angel moving to let me know she/he was still there. Even now at 18 weeks i still feel like that, the only thing pregnant about me is that i do have a very prominent bump. does anyone have any advice on how to deal with the unpregnant feeling.

expectingno3 · 04/12/2010 12:30

Absolutely. I replied to a very similar post a few weeks ago. I had morning sickness from 5 - 14 weeks, then nothing. There is definitely that limbo period when the symptoms stop, and yet you can't feel the baby move yet. It seems an endless wait till the next 20 week scan. I'm 21 weeks now, and only just feeling the baby move.

argylesocks · 04/12/2010 19:07

thanks :) sorry to repost if it was already up but the search function makes it hard to find stuff.

I thought the 12-week wait was bad but this is worse! I get my 20 week scan first week of January but today I went ahead and ordered a heart monitor... (is that bad?) I really want to hear it!

I don't have a 16 week appointment so nothing till Jan!

I did not feel movement till quite late on but I was over weight and got told it some times takes longer to feel movement. also where ur placenta is can effect how u feel movement or if the baby back is to ur stomach and limbs are pointing towards ur back. I panicked a lot about not feeling much movement but eventually they let u know they are in there

bananarama05 · 05/12/2010 11:16

argyle I woke up this morning thinking the exact same thing.

I'm 14+1 today and MS seem to have eased off a lot in the last couple of days, I just slept right through until 10.30am after managing to stay up after midnight (I haven't seen past 10pm in about 2 months!) and whilst DP is convinced I have the start of a bump I know full well it's just flab and am really beginning to miss my waist, hoping bump hurrys up soon!

Good to know we're not alone :)

I'm a little jealous of the heart monitor, I keep seeing all the posts about them and it's making me want one but i have my 17 week appointment a couple of days before xmas and I know I'm the sort of person who wouldn't stop using it and would panic if I couldn't find anything, would be more trouble than it's worth for me!

CaribouMoo · 05/12/2010 11:37

I'm the same just now at almost 17 weeks. MS stopped around 14 weeks and I've been amazed by being able to stay up until half 11 last few nights! Desperate to feel the baby move but as spaceangel pointed out, my placenta is between the bump and the baby this time so the MW says it will be a while yet.

I couldn't have one of those dopplers either, I would drive myself mental with it!

argylesocks · 05/12/2010 13:58

My dp is convinced I'm showing too but I think it's just fat. If I had an appointment between now and January I wouldn't have bought the monitor but I think that's too long to wait.

I think I might just show up at the clinic one morning this week and beg them to listen to the heartbeat. Worth a shot.

I still feel it stretching so I'm not too worried about it but it's just weird.

How in the world do you know where your placenta is??

OP posts:
CaribouMoo · 05/12/2010 15:11

I'm definitely showing but I've had missed miscarriages before so need constant ressurance that all is well. I asked the MW at my 16 week apppt this week to listen with the doppler. She couldn't hear baby's heartbeat but said she could hear him/ her moving about and has written in my notes that she heard fetal movement. Not sure if the placenta position again makes it harder to pick up, I just know that I would regularly freak myself out if I had a monitor - although it is tempting at the same time!

I only know about the placenta because the sonographer wrote 'anterior placenta' on my notes. I asked the MW about it this week and she explained about it - lots of others on here have expereince of this too.

Are you having a 16 week appt soon? I'm sure you could ask the MW to listen for you. My 20 week scan is in Jan too, it does seem awful far away.

argylesocks · 05/12/2010 18:08

I didnt get a 16 week appointment. The day after my scan I had an appointment that seemed pretty pointless, they just gave me that yellow book and didn't check anything.

I was only 13 weeks then so that couldnt count as my 16 week appointment, could it?

I'm going to call and ask tomorrow.

I've looked and my notes do say anterior placenta too. I just looked it up and it says you feel the baby move later, but does it have any affect on when you can hear the heartbeat?

OP posts:
CaribouMoo · 05/12/2010 18:41

argyle I really don't know if it affects hearing the HB. I did panic when she could't hear the baby's, she just kept picking mine up instead. She assures me she heard the baby moving, I must admit I also heard sounds like someone brushing against a microphone.

After saying that having a doppler would be a bad thing for me to obssess about I did google them earlier to see how much they cost!! Let me know if you find out if an anterior placenta affects hearing the HB and good luck getting an appt.

tlise · 05/12/2010 22:44

I'm 21 weeks and somedays don't remember feeling it at all except still very lightly occasionally and don't feel pregnant at all except for Jordan's knockers :D
i thought about getting a doppler but would worry more if couldn't find it with being inexperianced. But Hubby says I definately look pregnant and MIL says I look like a barrage balloon, and seeing as I am big to start with and look 9 months pregnant when Im not, I must be big Xmas Hmm

kelly2525 · 06/12/2010 00:41

Those home dopplers can make things worse, you pick up your own heartbeat easily enough, but ive read about too many women panicking when they cant pick up the babys. Which is much faster and sounds like an express train.

Im an impatient cow so i had a couple of private scans, one at 16 weeks to find out the sex and one at 25 weeks to see the little chap in 4D, well worth it if you can afford it, and even if you cant, its worth splashing out on.

Im almost 35 weeks, and have managed to avoid maternity clothes, I did buy some jeans two sizes bigger a couple of months ago and had the legs altered and thankfully im still in them, depending on how i stand, and what im wearing, i dont look pregnant, just a bit of a chubba (which is normal)

tlise · 06/12/2010 08:04

I would love to have a 4D esp as when our kids have kids, it will more than likely be the norm and Im not planning on any more now, but there isn't one near to us :(

bananarama05 · 06/12/2010 22:41

ooh those 4D scans wierd me out a bit, DP wants one and a video doing but I'm not sure.

Am contemplating trying to get a private scan in before xmas dependent on cost as my 20 weeks won't be til after Jan 17th which seems aaaaaages away.

thefurryone · 07/12/2010 15:16

I definitely felt very unpregnant between around 14 - 19ish weeks but then I started to round up rather than just feel fat and now at 20+4 I'm feeling little kicks and it's becoming much more real.

In fact it's only since having my 20 week scan this morning that I actually want to tell people who didn't already know that I'm pregnant, as I was still slightly convinced that I was making it up!

argylesocks · 07/12/2010 20:18

yay! i'm not encouraging it (hehe, maybe) but my heart dopplar arrived today and we just heard the heartbeat!

It only took about a minute to find and was definitely distinct from the placenta noise and my heartbeat.

So now I'm slightly reassured that its ok even if I don't feel particularly preggo.

furryone i feel similar about telling people. I've decided to hold off on telling work until after Christmas. I'm away for three weeks and I just hope I'm not huge when I walk back in the door!

Hi,

I'm only 11+2 and had a scan at 9+3 (long cycles so they thought I was further along) and saw the heartbeat.

But my pregnancy symptoms have totally gone in the last two days - boobs no longer hurt, no longer even retching (let alone sick). Am panicking now. Have another scan next Thursday, when I'll be 12+3. No bleeding but have had lower backache today and yesterday.

Did anybody else lose their symptoms this early? I am worried! Apart from the backache I feel back to normal...

lilly13 · 08/12/2010 10:47

Hi, i am 18 weeks and feel nothing. No fluttering Sad. I didn't have any morning sickness or tiredness. I am also worried - this is my first pregnancy. Going to get a private scan. Will report back!

takethatlady · 08/12/2010 11:27

Ooh will look forward to reading your post lilly - I'm sure it will be lovely news Smile

soandsosmum · 08/12/2010 12:49

hi

yes argyle - i totally feel like that!
Apart from feeling a bit tired and sick sometimes (who doesnt in autumn?) I dont feel 'very' pregnant, and sometimes feel like I'm making it up like you, thefurryone!

I'm 18 weeks and have my 20 week scan just before christmas. I'm just glad i have pics from my previous scans as otherwise I might think i am just pretending to be pregnant to cover up getting fat! {wink]
