A cot?

Amberc · 26/11/2010 12:12

Not so transportable though really - can't pick up the handles and walk off with it...

It would be so heavy!

mylifewithstrangers · 26/11/2010 12:14

I can't imagine you would want to pick up something with 2 babies in. As Peas says it would be heavey, they might roll together etc. Even with one in a moses basket I was always wary of carrying it with a baby in, for fear of dropping it etc.

why would you want to pick it up and walk off with it? Confused

PeasPlease · 26/11/2010 12:16

and if you had them side by side they would roll into each other when you picked it up.

When mine were tiny I put them together in a pram carry cot for their naps, swaddled up like two sausage rolls. You could carry that round but it was quite heavy. I also have a rocky-type chair from DD1 that was quite wide and they could both fit in that. Aah, they were so cute squished together like that.

However I once did see a twin pram that had a double bassinet, the Mountain Buggy I think. Not sure you could pick it up with twins in though.

You are not supposed to carry your baby around in a moses basket. The handles do not always fully meet together and the basket may not be properly balanced. The handles are just there to make it easy to lift up the basket when there is no baby inside.

On another forum I have read several instances of people having accidents due to carrying babies in a moses basket. In one case the handles slipped out of the mother's hand as they didn't meet together properly and then their baby rolled out. Baby was ok but it was still frightening. When they went to A&E they were told that they often see accidents due to babies being carried in moses baskets.

There are pics on my profile of my twins in one pram carry cot and one reclined rocker. They were portable in both but I didn't carry them around really, more like shuffle them between downstairs rooms.

Amberc · 26/11/2010 17:30

Hmm - maternity nanny suggested large moses basket. Clearly not an option based on these resposes. Thanks all

GingerRaveDave-your photos are adorable!

We had two moses baskets upstairs for the twins to sleep in, and a crib downstairs that they shared for day sleeps, though one often slept in a bouncy chair. This didn't last long though as my twins HATED each other and just punched each other and disturbed each other. After we separated them they slept much better. They are now in two separate moses baskets downstairs and two separate cots upstairs. Meant they had to go into their own room at about 6 weeks as we can't fit two cots in our bedroom (who can?!?) but as Granny was staying and helping during the night this was probably best as I'm sure my DH didn't want his MiL wandering into our room at all hours of the night Confused

Congratulations on the twins. There's a lot of people chatting on the multiples threads if you want to ask questions.

I sewed my Moses basket handles on properly! With very thick, carpet-gauge thread and a huge needle. Grin

And then I was terrified of carrying it by the handles anyway, so we used to carry it upstairs by holding it underneath...

I planned for twins as had IVF, just having one tho! I thought if twins I would buy 2 cots as we would need two evetually anyway and put one downstairs and one upstairs and they could share both cots. One for day, one for night. Just an idea tho as obviously I have no proof that this would work!
