Had a scan today at 34 weeks and baby's head is measuring on the 95th percentile for diamater . Head circumference is 33cm.

Does baby's head grow much more in the coming weeks or is that pretty much it?

And anyone else wincing and crossing their legs due to big-headed baby? Confused

well i have my growth scan on the 6th december as at 20 weeks baby had big head and long legs above 95th centile - my daughter was born at 39 weeks head circ was 38cm!! - dreading seeing how big this ones head is - will let u know :)

MixedClassBaby · 23/11/2010 19:27

I had a scan at 36 weeks (am now 38) and head measured 34.4cm (on 95th percentile +) which the sonographer said is big.

My partner's family all have round heads - his cousin is known as 'Buster' as he was such a huge baby.

I'm just hoping the baby's born soon before she gets much bigger!

Hey Ho - there's no going back now!

yeah i had 3 babies with big heads

ds1 was 37.5
ds2 was 38
ds3 was 38.5 iirc!!!

was all fine tho!

megonthemoon · 23/11/2010 19:33

Dd was born with head on 91st centime (sorry can't remember cm). Would you believe me if I said the delivery was fine? :o

DS was thesame. It's my own bloody fault - myhead is massive -one size fits all never fits me!

PaigeTurner · 23/11/2010 21:02

Good to hear they all get out in the end! Grin

I can never find hats that fit. And baby's dad has a mahooosive head. Didn't think about it before though...

DS had a massive head- 39cm, right at the top of the chart! My charming brother referred to him as 'fathead' for the first couple of months- until my mum dug out his baby book and showed him that his head was exactly the same size...

I don't know if having a big head made labour hurt more, but it was definitely nothing I couldn't cope with. I'll be going through it all again with DC2 in 3 months, so it couldn't have been that bad.

Good luck!

Hello! I am currently 21 weeks pg with baby number 2 and although the scan didnt highlight any 'big' baby signs - Im not convinced! My DS weighed in at 9lb 12oz and his head was 41.5 at birth, so way off the scale! Needless to say we needed a little help during labour....

Well only time will tell, I guess!

Yes! I'm having twin baby giants and the head of one of them is on the 98th centile for a singleton! The other is ONLY on the 50th! They're both whoppers and after a bit of prodding, I got the sonographer at my last scan to estimate their weights at term, and she admitted that at their current size I'm looking at 2 x 9 lbers at 40 weeksShock. I'm booked in for a CS at 37 weeks so it'll be a sunroof exit, and even the sonographer looked relieved for me!

KittyFloss · 24/11/2010 01:04

Yes my dd was 98th centile+ and never engaged, ended up with emcs. My ds1 was the same and even though I was booked in for elcs, he did engage and was so far down they had to use forceps to un-wedge him. I reckon I could have had a natural birth with ds1, due to having pains and him engaging, what damage he would have caused on the way out is debatable Grin.

He still has a mahoosive head now, hats fit him and me equally Blush. Dd's head has kind of evened out, seemed quite large when she was a baby but has slowed down in growth.

My ds2's head was the smallest of the lot at 36cm (I think that was about 75th centile), he was predicted by scans to be about 12lbs with a massive head, but was quite dinky at 8lb9oz. He would never have come out normally, was spinning round to the end.

rosieposey · 24/11/2010 01:43

Oh god, my DS measured on the 98 centile for his head, his body was about right but his head was apparently huge! Anyway he's 21 months and it looks alright now - (it looked alright when he was born too) He was my 4th and having diabetes throughout each of the pgs i expected a big bubs each time. I got one except for DD who weighed in at a tiny 6lbs and they estimated her head to be huge too so id just wait and see - good luck and congrats :)

littleyellowchicken · 24/11/2010 11:44

Oh God, you've all got me worried now. My DP has the most massive head (physically as well as metaphorically). His Dad used to call him the Bus when he was a baby. What have I let myself in for?

piprabbit · 24/11/2010 11:49

My first has a huge head - she's 7 now and has been wearing adult hats for a couple of years now. HV sent us to the GP when she was about 6months old as her head was too big and they had to rule out underlying health problems - I got DH to take her and the GP took one look at the size of his head and sent them on their way.

The birth was fine though - she shot out a great rate of knots.

sh77 · 24/11/2010 12:14

And there was me worrying about my baby's head being too small (10th centile).
