Am I being paranoid?

Hi everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice/ reassurance from those of you who've been there before!

I am 7+5 with my first and over the last few days have had period pain style cramps, a sort of on/off dull ache quite low down, not specific to one side. Haven't had any bleeding or spotting or anything at all.

I had a scan last week at 6+5, saw a heartbeat and it measured 8.2mm. However I was feeling quite nauseous weeks 5-7 and that seems to have all but gone now.

I suppose I'm paranoid that it's all over and the cramping will soon become something more sinister. I'm quite bloated though and the cramps fit in with the development of a rounded tum, so wondering if it might just be a bit of stretching etc?

Am wondering if I am being paranoid or if I should book a private scan to be on the safe side?? Spoke to GP today who was quite sympathetic but said I needed to wait to see what happens If anything) over the next few days.

Any words of advice etc hugely appreciated- first time so feel like I really don't know what is normal or not!

THanks

Sounds like normal stretching to me. I had exactly the same, and even though I'd had early scans (due to a previous EP), was really concerned as the pains were so like my usual period aches. Reassurance from more experienced Mums on here told me that all was normal, unless any bleeding started.

So, I'd go with your GP's advice. A private scan is costly, and if you go down the road of having scans done every time you have aches and pains you'll drive yourself both mad and bankrupt! Try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know.

Some women do get lots of aches/apins throughout pregnancy, but especially early pregnancy. This is my 7th pregnancy and I have had loads of cramping. Like you, I had a scan at 6+4, saw a hearbeat etc and baby measured 8.7mm.

I am paranoid. I have had miscarriages before and a late loss. I over think every single ache and pain. At one point I had convinced myself I was imagining the morning sickness. (I didn't get any sickness in my last pregnancy that ended is miscarriage, we never saw a hearbeat on a scan then though) Even though I was horrendously nauseas to the point I was gagging whilst driving the DC to school this morning, I have had a little worry this afternoon because I don't feel as sick.

A scan might reassure you, but it might not. It might also not reassure you for very long. I just keep telling myself that I've seen a hearbeat and I just have to hope everything will be OK, that worrying will do no good and if something bad's going to happen I can't change it but mightmake it more likely by worrying.

Hi Jewel congrats on your pregnancy

I am currently 40+1 with my first, but remember those first few weeks.

I also experienced period style cramps without bleeding for the entire first trimester. It had me constantly running to the loo checking for blood, but apparently it's very common and most women experience this. I spoke to midwife about this at my booking in appointment who also advised was just things stretching etc as your body has never done this before

Try not to worry, but I know that's easier said that done.

at full term I am still finding new ways to worry about what's going on in there. Smile

If the pain gets bad or you do start to bleed, speak to your GP or early pregnancy unit.

am sure others will be along to post more advice for you later.

good luck xx

I had exactly the same, was very worried, but it's just your ligaments stretching to accomodate the baby.

I found a hot water bottle very soothing - top thrifty tip from my daughter, just fill up an ordinary plastic bottle and wrap a cloth over it, works the same!

Don't worry, try to relax.

Congratulations :)

I had this too in my first few weeks as far as I can tell it is quite normal both to get the cramps and to be worried about them. I told myself as long as there was no bleeding that it was ok and a good sign and then proceeded to worry about something else.

Thanks so much everyone, it's so nice to get some reassuring feedback and also to hear that others have had the same worries.
We haven't really told anyone yet so I think that makes it worse as I haven't been able to ask anyone if they've had the same. It's great to be able to compare notes on here.

Feeling a bit less crampy now which is good and finding things to take my mind off worrying!

Thanks a million again.

Hiya

I'm 7 weeks exactly so jut a bit behind you!

The aches and pains are all normal :-)

Ur lucky u had a scan! at least ur reasured - seeing a heart beat definately lowers your chances of m/c and should give some assurance!

Even though I had a m/c last yaer I've been told I'm not allowed to have a scan until 12 weeks even though I am a born worrier and the past history... which I think is pretty bad but must stick to the rules I guess.
