Travelling in January at 32 weeks

DH and I fancy a final fling before DC1 is born in March and i've been eyeing up some cosy looking inns on the Yorkshire coast for a weekend away in January when I'll be about 32 weeks pg.

Obviously none of you can predict the weather (actually if you could that would be handy) but I don't know if I'm being silly in contemplating a 4+ hour journey down the A1 in Jan from central Scotland at that stage of pg, or am I being silly thinking there's any reason not to?

Just picturing getting stuck in a snowdrift on Yorkshire Moors with big bump and wondering what the hell I was thinking... But ah, cosy seaside inn with open fire and stormy seas outside...

I saw your title and thought "great not the only one" Grin I will be flying (7 hours) back from hols on 9th Jan (not sure how many weeks I'm due 20/3)

Don't think you are crazy at all - will be a lovely break (esp of you don't have DC already - I unfortunately will have 2 DC in tow!)

The chances of a snowdrift that keeps you trapped for any length of time and an early delivery are soooooo small I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Have fun

Be aware you'll need to take breaks so any drive will take longer. Even if you don't need to pee, you must stop and stretch and move around because of the ridiculously high DVT risk when pregnant (1 in 1000 when pregnant compared to 1 in 4-10K for someone non-pregnant flying long-haul)- usual advice is stop every 60-90 minutes.

Ha ha I'm such a wimp, we were going to fly to Rome in Jan/Feb but am already getting painful pelvis and hips so thought maybe not a good idea.

You'll be about 31 weeks then as you're due the same time as me. I'm sure I'll be fine, I just remember the big snow last year when people got stuck in their cars on the A1 for hours. Will take a wee bucket just in case!

Hope you enjoy your trip!

I'm nearly 33 weeks and I'd feel fine to travel personally - I'm planning a road trip in a couple of weeks. In fact it was worse for me earlier on. I had to drive up to Manchester while I was still getting morning sickness and I got stuck in gridlocked traffic in the blazing summer heat with no air con and nowhere to pull over. Only option was to vom in an empty costa coffee cup in plain view of all the other drivers stcuk around me. (sorry TMI!) Worse moment of my life! So yes, take a suitable receptacle with you I suppose! But as long as you're not going anywhere too remote I say go. Worse that can happen even if you get stuck in traffic is needing a wee. I imagine that in an emergency an ambulance would still be able to battle it's way through!
