Pushchair

I am trying to buy my first pushchair but I am stuck. I have problems with my balance and lifting and carrying things, so I need to find something that is very light indeed and easy to fold. This doesn't seem to be easy to find in a pushchair that is all this and suitable from birth. Ideally it would be rear facing and just have the one handle too.

All ideas gratefully received.

I need something lightweight etc. I had a Mamas and Papas Aria for DS which was very lightweight. Didn't really like it though as it felt flimsy and I stopped using it when DS was 4 months. I do like the Maclaren buggies, they are so easy to fold and lovely and light but I used it when DS was a bit older.

This time I have fallen in love with the Hauck Malibu. It is sooooo light. I'm going to go back in the shop and have a play to see how easy it is to fold etc, but I can see me buying it on the fact that it is so lighweight and very very easy to push.

I;'ve just been looking for mine and ended up with a Silvercross, whick is beautiful but is likely to be a bit bulky in terms of what you're describing.

You might like to take a look at the Oyster range of prams, these were really lightweight and easy to manouvre. Really easy to fold up too.

Have you considered the Baby Jogger City Mini?

www.babyenterprise.com/Baby%20Jogger%20City%20Mini%20Single.htm

I've bought this for our first DC, based on testing it in the shop - SOooo easy to fold (one-handed, a breeze compared to everything else on the market), and it's light to carry too. It's suitable from birth and has excellent reviews online if you google for them. It also has just one handle.

Also, unlike lots of other models it's very fairly priced (less than 200 quid) AND will last from birth to toddler years.

I got mine from John Lewis - I looked at a few so-called light, easy-folding models there and this wins hands down in terms of ease of use, price, etc.

I'm not due until January so granted I've not been able to give it a full test run yet Grin but you should check it out.

The only downside for me was that it is only forward-facing, but you can buy adaptors to put a carseat on top of the pram for when it's a newborn, and that way the baby can face you. Once it's too big for the carseat, baby will have to face forwards. But I think overall it's excellent.

i always like to recommend a maclaren techno xt. we've had ours since 2006, it's on its 2nd lady owner and is suitable from birth.

not backwards-facing i will admit, but i think you can get them now with a matching carseat. you couldn't get that then, and i wouldn't have bought it if you could (we don't have a car...), but you can now.

it weighs about 8kg i think.

How about the new Quinny Zapp? I've not tried it out but it's very light, suitable from birth and you can click a car seat onto it. Think it's got 2 handles though.

detachandtrustyourself · 21/11/2010 18:01

If the pushchair you get doesn't face both ways, but has a carrycot option, it is better to use that to enable the baby to face you than a car seat, especially for long periods of time, so the baby can lie flat, which is better for the baby's back and breathing.

Thanks for the tips ladies
I am between the baby jogger- light and easy but forward facing - or the bebe confort streety - quite light rear facing , cheap, but fiddly

Now I just have to make a decision. It wasn't that complicated last time I got a new car.

I would also recoomend the City Mini. However, if you are after a rear-facing light-weight, I think the Bee+ is a good option.
Unfortunately, I don't have personal experience with it, so can't advise. But do ask this question on the Products/Pushchairs forum - there are LOTS of people who have experience with more than one buggy (most seem to have experience with more than 4-5 Grin)

blondieminx · 24/11/2010 22:30

Would heartily recommend the Icandy Apple. It has one handle, and is a lighter travel system option than the Bugaboo Chameleon. IT comes as standard with a buggy suitable from 6m+ BUT you can buy a separate carrycot which fits into the chassis thus making it suitable from birth (and looks like a proper pram then too!) and you can also get adaptors which mean you can use the MaxiCosi Cabriofix car seat too. They are pricey (seven hundred quid once you've shelled out for the carrycot and seat adaptors on top of the basic package) but I've seen icandy bubdles on ebay for around £150 if you're happy to spend a few hours washing/ordering new parts if necessary.

One of my mates said to definately get a system where you can click the car seat into the wheels as it's sooo much nicer to be able to keep the baby cosily asleep than have to take them to move them to a buggy. It was sound advice and I'm really glad we took heed.

Good luck with your purchase! :)

Well I tried out the Hauck Malibu today and it was great!!

Comes with a carry cot so you can have baby facing you, clips on and off really easily, folds well and the car seat clips on easily too. Comes with matching changing bag too and the whole lot costs about £200, rrp is £300 but if you shop around on the net you can find it for £200. Nice big shopping basket and very lightweight and easy to steer which is essential for me.

Good if you are on a budget and it comes in about 8 different colours.

detachandtrustyourself · 28/11/2010 20:26

Looks fab crazy, unusual to get such a great big basket as well as lightweight, carrycot to face you, single handle, easy to steer everything else you need. (want one, wish it avaiable with no longer needed carrycot and car seat, no stopit). Congratulations on your expected baby! Enjoy your little bundle of joy when it arrives!

detachandtrustyourself · 28/11/2010 20:30

oops sorry, muddled you up with op crazy. Still looks ideal pushchair though.

a1b2 it is available as just a pushchair without the extras!! Its about £100 if you search online, Wink. Not that I am trying to encourage you or anything. Grin

nicolamumof3 · 29/11/2010 13:59

bee+ is exactly what you have described.

don't get a streety they are awful to maneovre, possibly ok with teeny newborn but a few months down the line you will barely get it up the kerb without a struggle!

Nthirty · 29/11/2010 19:04

Thanks for all your help ladies I have now ordered a baby jogger city mini with the carrycot so fingers crossed
