Vit B6/ B complex in pregnancy

Hi everyone, I'm new to this board having tentatively graduated from the conception board this week (5 wks PG) Grin.

I've got myself into a bit of a state because I've been taking Vit B complex (50 mg B6 and 50 mcg B12) and am convinced this helped me get a BFP after 16 months of trying and one early miscarriage. The problem is that now I don't know whether to keep on taking it. The information out there is really confusing, but there are lots of threads saying
a) B vitamins are water soluble so you just pee out any excess so it can't do any damage
b) Vit B6 is prescribed up to 75mg a day for morning sickness
c) high doses of Vit B 6 can be harmful in pregnancy

So you can see why I'm Confused.

Does anyone know anything about this? Anyone been prescribed B6 for morning sickness and at what dosage?

I have to have B12 injections every 3 months as i'm B12 deficient (been having them 9 years) - been told to carry on with them throughout my pregnancy (13 weeks tomorrow.

Sorry i don't know anything about the others.

I would just switch to regular antenatal vitamins now that you are pregnant, as everything in there is at levels deemed to be safe in pregnancy (including B vitamins) and will include other vitamins that are also good to take in pregnancy (e.g. D3). Main thing is to keep taking folic acid, esp. for 1st trimester. Only thing I took for both pregnancies were antenatal vitamins plus antenatal fish oils. Would only take other supplements if specifically prescribed by midwife/doctor. Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Thanks both. The only thing that stops me just switching onto ordinary prenatal vits is the information in some places that suddenly dropping the B vits can lead to miscarriage. After trying for 16 months I am desperate to hold onto this pregnancy!

Lilysma, I know miscarriage can be very distressing - my 1st pregnancy ended in an early mc, then I went on to have DS and am now 30 wks pg with DC2 - although both times found the 1st trimester really nerve-wracking as afraid of another mc. Most early mcs are due to chromosomal reasons, and quite frankly whatever you take or not won't change that. Do not know anything about B vits and links to mc, but would imagine it applies to a very tiny proportion of cases (i.e. due to other than chromosomal reasons). Can you talk to a doctor about it?

Thanks Pinkpeony. GP was very nice but said she really didn't know anything about it and it is best to just take pre-natal vitamins. I know many mcs are due to chromosomal reasons but from what I have read hormonal reasons are also significant. There's just too much information on the web out there isn't there?!

hmm, that was supposed to be a strike through but it didn't work Blush
