Had this last time but I think it was in the first trimester and just on my legs.

This time I am just in my 3rd trimester and my legs and arms are sooooo itchy. It seems to happen more when I am in bed, or when I just get up but I noticed sat here last night and now that my arms are really itching.

I know there is a liver thing that can cause itchyness. I have MW on monday, should I just leave it until then? Not much I can do now anyway as it is the weekend though.

Phone NHS direct or get emergency GP appointment. They will propbably suggest a liver function test.

lambethlil · 19/11/2010 10:47

Bump for you CPL, any news?

nonanny · 19/11/2010 10:48

DEfinitely go to your GP today; you will only worry if not and they will give you best advice

MaryBS · 19/11/2010 11:30

Do you have a rash with it? "The liver thing" is Obstetric Cholestasis, and there is no rash with it.

What has the MW said?

japhrimel · 19/11/2010 16:08

Tbh unless you're 35+ weeks it can wait till Monday - the risks with OC rise after 36 weeks in singleton pregnancies.

As well as liver function tests they should also test your bile acid levels as they are the best predictor of risk with OC.

One negative test means nothing btw so if the tests are normal now they should be repeated every 7-10 days while you're itchy.

But on the other hand try not to panic, i itch from moment of conception to just before the birth. It's the first sign that i'm pregnant, tried and tested now after 4 DC. There was never anything wrong with my liver function.Try not to worry but do tell MW or GP obviously!

alemci · 19/11/2010 16:31

i remember having a very itchy tummy when i was pregnant with no 3. Do see your GP or midwife though

Applemuncher · 19/11/2010 16:39

I have an itchy tum and boobs (especially nipples) - I would kind of expect that but if it was on my legs like you're experiencing then I would be off to see my GP! Let us know how you go.

Well, my doctors are a bit shit really. I didn't think it was worth trying to see a doc today and as it was mid morning I knew I would have no chance of getting in today.

My MW is based at the childrens centre and only at my surgery on a Wednesday. From previous experience, I knew they don't actually answer the phone at the CC, you have to leave a message and then they get back to you at some point. I phoned the surgery to ask for a direct number for the MW, the receptionist said she didn't know what I meant. Hmm I said something other than the CC number as they don't answer the phone, she said its the only number they have for the MW. So I tried it and surprise surprise, no answer. I couldn't be bothered to leave a message so I'm just going to speak to the MW on Monday. From what I have read on the net, it isn't anything that can't wait 3 days as I'm not quite at the end yet.

I am going to see if I can get a contact number for my MW as I have wanted to ask a question a couple of times and haven't been able to get hold of her. They will probably direct me to the drop in session that is once a week in a converted house with patio furniture in the 'waiting room'. I am not going there!! My friend had to after falling down the stairs and she ended up walking out, it was so awful.

I have a mobile number for my MW - thought this was standard TBH. I often have to leave a message but at least its with her directly.

CrazyPlateLady · 20/11/2010 19:44

I'm hoping she is going to give me her number. I don't like not being able to contact her for a question and I'm not making appointments that are unnecessary. My MW was actually at my old surgery so I haven't had to deal with a MW at the CC before. Its a bit of a pain tbh and I loathe the weighing clinic down there. Not looking forward to that!

I've always been given a mobile number for midwife too. I usually end up leaving a msg, but they've always been good about calling back. If it's her day off or shes on hols then she fwds her phone to another midwife so I can always speak to someone.
