11 weeks pregnant and been offered the flu jab through work, lots of conflicting advice on the net, what do you think?

I'm normally of very good health but this pregnancy I'm suffering from hyperemesis which makes me worry that my immune system won't be as sturdy as it usually is. Would this be a factor in deciding whether to have the jab or not? I know it's not a live vaccine but there are still stories about of it making people ill.

My doctor recommended it but my midwife says there can be risks and it's personal choice.

The jabs are tomorrow and I've not got to the 'safe' 12 week mark yet.

If I didn't have the jab and I got flu (never had it before) I'd obviously feel like crap and need time off work but would there be a danger to my baby?

NHS website (obviously pro-vaccination) comments section is full of rants and horror stories from posters.

What are others doing?

I had my jab last week (I was at 16wks), no ill effects so far other than a sore arm for a day. My husband has recently had the flu and it utterly floored him, so I didn't want to risk it whilst pregnant.

Firstly- this is a REALLY old thread that has been bounced, and some of the advice regarding the seasonal aspects of flu/ sinew flu are 5/6 years out of date now. (although interesting to note that swine flu is making a comeback apparently!....)

To answer the question- I had it without even giving it much thought. I'm not naturally cautious anyway, but I figured the risk of getting flu complications > risk of complications from the vaccine, and that was all I based my decision on!

As for when to get it- I was told to get is ASAP and so I had it when I was about 7 weeks- to have waited until my 2nd trimester would have meant I was right into November and flu season and knowing my luck would have quite probably caught flu, rendering the whole bloody thought process a bit futile.
