Exhaustion

I'm 18+2 weeks and SO tired. With my first DS I was starting to feel pretty good by this stage and even went on holiday. Other Mum's I'm friends with don't seem to get why I'm so exhausted and not getting to work. Am I being a complete wuss? I have little energy to play with my DS and it's a relief when his Dad is home or when he is collected by childminder/Grandparents. I feel guilty for being so "lazy", it's so unlike the normal not pregnant me. Is anyone else out there feeling the same and not having that 2nd trimester burst of energy and Glow???

Have you been checked for anaemia and other deficiencies?

I never really got the 2nd trimester energy/glow - was pretty tired throughout. But extreme exhaustion could indicate an extra issue, such as anaemia.

I asked the MW but she just checked my booking bloods (taken at 6 weeks) and said iron levels were fine. Maybe I should push the point a bit next time I see her. Thanks.

I'm the same stage as you are (18+1) and I'm shattered too. I get so tired during the day. I want to nap, but if I lie down during the day I get sick. Urgh. I think the sickness has contributed to my feeling so tired. I'm trying to stay hydrated and eat healthy foods but it's difficult sometimes.

Hang in there, I hope you feel better soon x. Oh, and I second taking it up again with the midwife, in case it's something that can be easily fixed that just hasn't been picked up on yet :)

GretnaGirl · 18/11/2010 12:11

Thanks Smaych are you working through it? I've been signed off ages now, dreading having to drag myself back in :(

Probably not what you want to hear but I was shattered until 30 weeks and then all of a sudden felt amazing! I didn't have any iron issues or anything else - just bad luck!

Make sure you try and take it easy.

I think some people just get exhaustion with some pgs (despite you not having it before). It could just be one of those things.

I get so tired easily that going to tesco is an achievement, especially if I manage not to collapse straight away when I get home. I can achieve barely anything each day which really gets me frustrated and down, as it;s not like me at all. Have had this throughout (am now 26 weeks). Worse in first tri, but still bad. I've been signed off for yonks as I couldn't cope with working

Thanks everyone, it helps to know others feel the same. :) It's tough being signed off "sick" as when I do feel a bit better I feel guilty for being out and about in case anyone from work sees me and thinks I'm skiving! I have a bad guilt complex I need to get rid of!

gretna my GP told me to go out for little bits whenever I can so I don't get stuck inside and make situation of exhaustion/anxiety worse - so if ever I bump into anyone from work when out (which hasn't happened yet) at least I can say it's Doctors orders that I'm shopping in debenhams (or wherever I might manage to get to) Grin

Gretna, if you really think it's more than pregnancy symptoms push to get it checked.

I feel exhaused this time and have all the way though (now 30wk) and have just found out a pre existing thyroid condition has flared up. I'm checked for this 3 monthly which is how it was picked up and some people do suffer from thyroid problems for the first time in pregnancy but the symptoms are masked because it just adds to your pregnancy symptoms of generally feeling knackered and a bit crap.

A thyroid function test is a simple blood test that can be done by your GP (or midwife if GP requests it) Thyroid problems are more common in women in their 30's.

Thanks angels I have been getting out a bit more lately, more so with my husband on a weekend. I even managed my MIL's 60th birthday meal on Saturday - a month ago I was terrified of the thought. It's so easy to just stay in the house isn't it?! The weather is so crap too and the days are even dark at the moment, just glad baby is due in April when the Spring should hopefully cheer me up a bit!

Slimyak I will see my doctor next week and I will definitely ask him if he will check for any other reasons I'm so exhausted. He is very nice actually, it's me who feels like a hypochondriac, constantly at the doctor's lately!
