Very bad headaches. Who, if anyone, do I call?

I have been getting regular headaches for a while. I am 12 weeks pregnant. They are getting worse and I think last night I had a migraine - bad pain, sensitive to light and noise etc. Should I see my doctor or is this just one if those things?

contact your doctor - today.

I get severe headaches/migraines in early pregancy. For me it is just one of those things. I know it can be signs of serious problems (such as pre-eclampsia) in later pregnancy, but not sure about earlier on. It's probably best to see your GP to make sure everything's OK.

Very unlikely to be PE this early on, but could be a reaction to hormones. Still, I'd ask to see GP asap - say you're pregnant, it usually puts a rush on!

As everyone else says, probably wise to see your GP. I have been having them too, on average once a week and they last for 2/3 days, I have to go to bed and not get up until they pass. The joys of pregnancy! Hope you feel better soon.

I had these kinds of headaches too, through 2nd trimester of all 3 pgs. They are absolutely horrible but quite common I think. Speak to GP or midwife but it is unlikely they will tell you to do anything other than take paracetemol. As someone said, it is a reaction to the hormones in your body and you just have to get through them.

I found mine tended to come on after a long drive or spell of concentrating so tried to avoid that. Also I found 4Head helped when the headache was not as bad/wearing off a bit so used that to minimise paracetemol intake.

Definitely see your GP, but ruling out anything serious, I also suffer from pregnancy headaches, went to accupuncturist last Tuesday and she put some needles in my forehead and other places to treat them: headache went immediately (had had it for about 2 weeks) and haven't had one since. Definitely worth a shot.

I had really bad headaches from about 12-15 weeks. They slowly disappeared by about week 16. My midwife said it was due to hormonal changes and advised me to drink lots and lots of water - 3 litres a day. It did help along with early nights. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone. Dr says they sound like tension headaches and while frustrating, are not dangerous. I think I will book a pregnancy massage and try relax. He says it's particularly common in early pregnancy, especially in situations like mine with assisted conception.

Apparently I can be very tense without actually realising it. Aah, the joys of being pregnant.
