Previous pelvic fracture and pregnancy

Hi all,

I'd imagine that there aren't many, if any, who might have any experience of this, but thought I'd ask just in case!

A few years back I suffered an 'open book' fracture of my pelvis, and as a result have a metal plate screwed across the symphysis pubis (the front part). I'm resigned to the fact that I'll be having a c-section, as my pelvis won't open, and that's fine, but I'm more concerned with how it will impact me when I'm later in my pregnancy and having to carry the extra weight without any give in my pelvis.

Naturally, I've been referred to an obstetrician for specialist advice and care, but I'm not seeing her until March, and I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who might have any experience of anything like this!

Thanks :)

I don't know if this is relevant but hey ho...

I was born with the right side of my pelvis under developed so my right hip joint was constructed over two years' of surgery as a child. I don't have plates in there but it's generally agreed my pelvis is weaker than your average person's.

I'm now 20 weeks and so far all is normal apart from extra hip pain when I get knackered. I too may have to have a cs but they'll decide closer to my due date. I've been given leeway to call the maternity physios whenever I want and am under doctor supervision rather than a mw. I find sitting on a swiss ball helps ease the pelvic pain.

I've bought my old x-rays from my local hospital so that my obstetrician can get a good look at what my pelvis looks like as it'll affect where the baby 'sits'.

I have a feeling that Heather McCartney still had plates in her pelvis when she had baby Bea and it was ok.
