desperate for advice r.e sleeping

I am currently 36+ wks pregnant and seriously struggling to sleep at night. The pain in my legs/thighs/hips from the sheer volume of weight placed upon them is now unbearable.

I toss and turn throughout the night and end up having to get up. The pain in my legs lasts the whole morning. We don't have a headboard on our bed yet so can't prop myself up (dh is getting this sorted before baby arrives so I can sit up and feed baby in bed).

Any ideas r.e sleeping positions would be greatly appreciated. x

I am 36 weeks too, and have been struggling to get comfortable and have a decent nights sleep in bed since 30 weeks.
I tried all sorts of different pillows and combinations of them, but have found that the only way i am comfortable enough to actually get some sleep is to sleep on the sofa!
Luckily we do have recliner sofa so i can sleep semi sat up with my legs raised too and i can honestly recommend it!
I usually only wake once in the night for a wee and sleep the rest of the night comfortable and asleep!
Obviously im not saying go out and buy a recliner sofa! But if you have one already then it is definately worth a try!
Good luck sleeping!

Do you put a pillow between your knees? Sorry you probably have tried this already but thought it was worth mentioning just in case. It should relieve the hip pain when you are on your side. I used to have one under my bump and one between my knees and that made it sort of bearable (just).

nothing to add but i'm 38+2 n every night is a struggle for decent sleep so i feel ur pain

I feel your pain as my aching hips wake me up every couple of hours. I have to heave myself over and sleep on my other side until I am woken a couple of hours later in order to heave myself back the other way - this continues all night.

Being propped up by pillows helps a bit. A folded pillow between the thighs and a pillow behind my back and one under my bump.

I recently bought one of those v-shaped reading pillows and I sleep with that now. you can pull it into different positions and it helps a bit.

Also, sleeping on a folded duvet can help as it makes a softer area for the hip and thigh to sink into. A mattress can be pretty hard on your limbs when pregnant.

Other than that, you may have to grin and bear it.

I can't offer anything more than has been said, but another one here who can only sleep on the settee!

I think it is to do with how your spine alines itself when you are lying down. It doesn't matter how many pillows I use, and where, nothing seems to be as comfortable as the settee and all pains in my legs disappear.

I think I shall try daisy's suggestion of the duvet as the settee is very squishy!

I lie on my side with a pillow between my knees and somehow that seems to sort out all my knee and hip pain.

Thank you so much for all your replies and advice.

I have had a good couple of nights sleep since sat. I have been falling asleep on the sofa when I would normally have been going to bed. Dh then wakes me up when he goes to bed and I've been sleeping the rest of the night in bed. It has been working really well because by the time it is time to get up in the morning, my hips have well and truly had it but I've had a decent nights sleep. Heres hoping it continues!
