36 weeks and can hardly walk

Have terrible joint pain in my left hand side and am walking with an awful limp because of the pain in my knee and hip. I have tried reflexology, seen an osteopath several times, wearing a support belt, epsom salt baths but nothing working.
Any more suggestions and it's really getting me down.

i had similar - i found a good website with ideas, cant remember it though, search google maybe - it is called pelvic girdle pain i think - and it suggested swinging arms when walking, pushing back back and hips forward, ooh lots of things - mine suddenly stopped after a couple of weeks.

Stay in bed. All day. Demand butler service. Grin

Sorry, not particularly helpful, but it's what I'd do!

YummyorSlummy · 10/11/2010 21:39

Please make sure that if you still get this pain at all after the baby is born you get referred for phsyio. I had the same as you it seems, and put it off for nearly 2 years- I'm only just getting physio now!

See a physio if you haven't.

I get specialist myofascial massage and it's helped hugely during this pregnancy. It's a physio form of massage, but you have to go private for it as NHS physios are rarely trained in even the most basic techniques.

I have SPD and havent been able to walk properly since about 35 weeks and so had to leave work earlier than I would have liked. I have just stayed in bed because it is my first I have been able to. I found physio a waste of time to be honest. You dont have long left now..hopefully when you have the baby it will go. That is what I am hoping (now 37 weeks 4 days).

I bought a memory foam mattress topper from argos and it was the best £97 I ever spent. My pain disappeared after a few days. Flippin' marvellous. :)

chandellina · 11/11/2010 08:00

i had the same thing, around the same time. Definitely read up on SPD and tips on how to move. For example, always get up from a seated position with both your feet parallel on the ground, and your head over your knees (past your knees if a line was running down from the top of your head). Same with getting out of bed in the morning, and basically don't ever splay your legs, keep them together. (this works really well in labour, let me tell you.)

my physio appointment didn't come through until after I'd already given birth - they gave me some core-building exercises to help my abs knit back together but the symptoms were largely eliminated by having the baby out!

I am 34 weeks and have now had to leave work 2 weeks early cos of the pain, am seeing midwife on Monday, but will try some of the tips suggested above too. its a right royal pain in the arse (leg/hip!!) as I'm normally very active and am going stir crazy staying at home resting when my DS is at school!!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 11/11/2010 09:19

second the memory foam topper (though we just had a huge piece of foam on the bed, or a duvet under the sheet can help too)

I didn't really leave the house from about 35 weeks as even walking to the end of the road would have been past my point of no return Confused

Make sure you don't push yourself (as you'll make it worse) and when you sit down, sit with your legs straight out in front of you on a stool if possible.

Thanks for all the tips MNs. We have a memory form mattress from DC1 but this time made no difference. Will try with the physio though and will have a read on SPD. Am just hoping DC2 decides to make an early appearance!
