When I was in hospital last time, I was very jealous when another mum's husband came in the morning after her labour with a picnic of all the foods she hadn't been able to eat in pregnancy. She was Spanish so had tapas style - lots of cured ham, chorizo, prawns, fresh coffee and a small bottle of champagne.

I'm going to drop hints to DH this time round, and wondered if anyone had any tips to add?

this is lovely, I too seem to suffering from the hormones - there are some wonderful people in the world aren't there? I'm tempted to forward this to my dh, but I'd like to think that he's already got some ideas. I've certainly mentioned champagne and rare steak enough times!

I think a non-birth partner needs to recognise that a) breastfeeding is a job in itself in the early weeks, b) give explicit permission to their partner NOT to give in to self-pressure to 'get back to normal' (I so agree with CrazyPlateLady) or 'show that I can cope', any of that. If she's bored when resting/feeding, ask her what she would like in order to keep resting, a newspaper, new book/DVD from the library, radio? Tell her she's a great mum ESPECIALLY if all she appears to be doing is lying down and/or feeding.
