Hi I wondered if anyone could give me hope or shed some light. Have previously suffered 3 ms all b4 6 weeks. Specialist says it was due to anticardiolipin antibodies. Had pos test on 25 oct lmp 16 th sept had scan on 2nd nov they said gestation sac was empty but possibly too early 4-5 weeks pg, come back 18th nov. Am on heparin high dose folic acid and because progesterone levels dropped even though hcg levels are climbing now on cyclogest. Am absolutely terrified am losing this one too. Have recently started light bleeding. Has or is anyone going through this and is there any point in hoping that this could have a good outcome. Thanx to anybody that responds in advance am making myself sick with worry.

hi there - poor you. what a nightmare.
i have to say this doesn't sound good to me, though i'm not a doctor. but i have been through this myself four times Sad . based on your lmp dates, unless you have an unusually long cycle, you should have been around four weeks pregnant at around 16 october? so when you did your pg test you would have been at least five weeks pregnant, nearer six, and by the time of the scan you would have been more than six weeks? the bleeding is worrying too. personally i wouldn't wait until 18th nov (you'll go absolutely mad) - if you cant get seen at an early pregnancy assesment unit (and you should be able to get an appointment, given the bleeding) i'd go private.
the uncertainty is really horrendous and if the pregnancy is failing, then i'm sure you'd prefer to know sooner rather than later?
i'm sorry to sound negative but it doesn't sound optimistic. i really hope i'm wrong! sometimes they get the dates wrong etc and it's all a bit of an inexact science very early on, so there is hope. i know only too well what you're going through.
since you have had a positive anticardiolipin result, am wondering why they haven't recommended baby aspirin from before you got pregnant? worth asking? when did you start taking the heparin? i'll check this board a few times this evening if you need any more support..my heart goes out to you

Thanx sotough it's so very hard. Started taking aspirin with high dose folic acid 2 years ago after last ms. They stopped the aspirin due to hiatus hernia they were irritating it no end but carried on with the folic acid. Due to pcos my periods are always late usually 33-34 day cycle so not sure when I conceived but the scan showed 4-5 weeks fairly sure of that. Started heparin the day of pos test been taking it ever since with a host of bruises to go with it. The cyclogest is a recent thing due to the drop in progesterone levels on the 3rd. Still light pink bleed today and still praying it will different this time around. It's my first time with the array of medication though. Last miscarriage At 6 weeks everything fine strong hb following week all over. Just can't face it happening again but I know I will probably have to.

Sorry you're going through this. I had 2 MCs and that was bad enough.

Don't make any decisions now. If it goes wrong again, give yourself time to grieve. And do remember that now you're into getting treatment for recurrent MC, the odds are so much better.

Thanx ja sorry that you've had the same experience. Am so glad that I found this site although my friends are wonderful and mean well they don't know how I'm feeling cos they've never been through and have lots of healthy children they try to avoid talking to me for fear of upsetting me. I never really realised how many woman are in the same boat I hope u have success in the near future.

hi again, actually, amazingly, i'm 30 weeks pregnant now
Smile Smile Smile . It still feels like a miracle. All my miscarriages were over a period of two years, and happened despite me having a little boy who is three years old now and arrived without any problem. so i had no history of miscarriage and had a healthy pregnancy ,followed by four losses, mostly around the six-nine week stage. it was a truly devastating experience and i'm not sure how we'd have felt about keeping going if this fifth pregnancy had not progressed. the first 16 weeks of this pregnancy were truly the longest and hardest of my life - i really felt every moment of every waking hour that it was all about to go wrong again. With my fourth miscarriage, I had been taking aspirin and progesterone, and it didn't work. with this pregnancy, i've been on clexane (heparin) and was on steroids for the first 12 weeks, for possible NK cells. unlike you we didn't have a firm diagnosis for our problem, so the clexane and steroids were a case of 'giving it a try.' i'm so totally thrilled that this pregnancy has been different, and it does show there is hope. you don't say how old you are? do you live in/near London? if so it would definitely be worth getting referred to St Mary's Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic if this pregnancy doesn't work out for you.

Congratulations sotough so pleased for you. Am 37 now was trying for over 10 years to fall pregnant just wasn't ovulating due to pcos. Amazingly 1 day my left ovary cleared itself and started gettin regular periods then went on to have my 3 ms over the next 2 years then it took me 2 years since my last ms to fall pregnant again with the help of luteina 50. Am under the care of st micheals hosp in Bristol but unsure as to how much help they can be. Just have to put my trust in them and pray.

oh wow, you have had an awful time. the one thing that i was lucky with was being able to get pregnant very quickly. i know a miscarriage would be so much worse if it took years just to get pregnant in the first place. i tended to get pregnant at the first or second attempt, so my miscarriages were pretty back to back. generally it took me about four months to get over each one enough to feel strong enough for another go. your medical history seems pretty complicated and i don't feel i've got much more advice, except to keep going - if you can face it - and probably to get at least one, if not more, second opinions, ideally from St Mary's. (it is possible to see Lesley Regan privately, but very very difficult to get an appointment.) St Mary's run very, very sophisticated blood tests which sometimes show up different information, even if you've had the same tests before elsewhere. however they don't test for NK cells, but i'm not sure that would be relevant in your case.

Sammyfppg · 07/11/2010 23:03

Thanx again don't know much about nk cells what r they and what do they do?
