Bleeding

Its dark brown rather than fresh. But how long do I let it go on before seeking more help. Already spoke to midwife who said to monitore it and if it gets worse to go to A&E.

Its Beas birthday tomorow and we have 23 family members coming. I would hate to leave it all to go to A&E so would rather go today if nec.

Oh how awful for you. Sorry I have no solid advice or experience but from what I've read on these threads before, the bright red blood is the stuff to look out for. Might just be implantation bleeding or sometimes you can get a bit of blood if the placenta is re-adjusting itself.

How much blood is there and how far along are you?

Sending you best wishes and I'm sure someone will be along to advise you a little better soon

zippy539 · 17/09/2005 14:17

TBH I would go to A&E today or you'll worry yourself sick. How far along are you?

zippy539 · 17/09/2005 14:20

Sorry - meant to say, try not to worry too much atm. I was stunned to find out how common bleeding in pregnancy is - but I do know how terrifying it is too as I had it with ds. Still suggest you get checked out asap especially as you don't want to be sitting in A and E on Saturday night - get in now before all the sports injuries arrive later in the afternoon. Keep us posted.

Beabea · 17/09/2005 14:26

Im 10weeks 4days. Its a little more than spotting but still brown rather than bright red

I would probably go today then too, even if it's just to put your mind at rest so you can enjoy tomorrow

Beabea · 17/09/2005 19:06

Well 4 hours later I finally got seen. Definately bleeding from the womb but not much. Will hopefully get a scan early in the week.

Thanks for persuading me to go today.

Whizzz · 17/09/2005 19:08

Hope all is well at the scan - try not to worry too much.

rodeo1 · 17/09/2005 22:14

Will keep everything crossed for you

Mandymoo · 17/09/2005 22:49

Hope all goes well X

I've got early scan on Monday cos of pains etc - fingers crossed for us both X

starlover · 17/09/2005 22:51

agree with zippy... this is surprisingly common!
i had it at 6 weeks and on my scan they could find no reason for it at all... went on to have a healthy baby boy!

hope all goes well

Beabea · 18/09/2005 10:26

Things arent looking good. I am bleeding more and its redder. I suspect I shall have to go back to hospital again tomorow. Good job DH is off this week but what a shame we will have to spend it this way.

Not sure what I can do to prevent it getting worse. Bed rest is not an option with 23 people coming for Bea's Birthday today

Beabea · 18/09/2005 10:31

Just a few questions:

Can I still loose the baby with no pain?

Can the baby still survive if I continue to bleed?

This wasnt a planned baby but it really hurts to think I may loose it.

What can I say to family when they ask how I am today. I dont want to be upset and ruin Bea's 1st Birthday.

Only from my personal experience... but my GP said bedrest didn't matter. He said you could jump up and down and it wouldn't affect anything. Sadly, if one is going to miscarry it will happen and there's nothing you can do about it.

On a more positive note, I had a massive bleed - it looked like I'd been stabbed - and then another large, but not so large bleed, and I went on to have a healthy baby.

I don't know if any of this will be helpful but try and enjoy your DD's party in the knowledge that it won't be harming the baby.

I hope it all goes well.

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2005 10:44

hi hun((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))
going to try and answer your questions

Can I still loose the baby with no pain? unfortunately not all miscarriages have to be painful or even give an indication of anything being wrong at all. So pain or no pain you could still loose.

Can the baby still survive if I continue to bleed? The baby can survive as my near 2 yr old proves, I bled from 7-9wks with him and it was as heavy as a period..no reason for it at all just bled. I also know a few other people on here who have bled right through to 16 wks on and off with the baby being fine. So yes the baby can survive.

Beabea · 18/09/2005 10:46

Thanks it does help to know this stuff.

My other concern is that my morning sickness stopped about 2 weeks ago at 9 weeks. Last time it went on till 16weeks.

Trying to stay positive yet realistic.

bea I have had 3mcs in all 2 early and one missed. They have all been completely different and even my pregnancies with ds and this baby have been different. If anything ds caused the most stress due to bleeding and other things happening. With the missed mc I had morning sickness until about 3 days after op to remove baby. This pregnancy I have had nothing go wrong and odd as it may sound that actually worries me...lol

oldfool · 18/09/2005 13:46

I know you won't want to hear this but I recently had a missed m/c which started the way you describe. I had a bit of brown blood on the Wed at 10+4 which changed to red on the Sat then got heavier the following Tues when a scan revealed an empty sac. What I hadn't realised until afterwards was that I had been bleeding the whole time, but it wasn't coming out (sorry if TMI).

I had had grumbling aches low in my tummy from the start of the pg and they got no worse until after I knew I'd lost the baby. There was no warning at all. I'd convinced myself it must be OK because I wasn't having crampy pains but sadly it wasn't.

colditz · 18/09/2005 14:33

Beabea, I am going through the exact same thing. I have been bleeding on and off this pregnancy, I have a scan on Wednesday to see what's going on in there.

I am off work sick, but I know I am going to get so much flack from work about this, I might even get sacked cos i've had so much time off.

it's so hard when you don't know what's happening.

Beabea · 18/09/2005 17:46

Thanks for all your messeges. THe bleeding continues and has increased and is brighter. Trying to rest more now the birthday party is over. I did very little after the initial preparation. Will contact the hospital tomrorow and hope to get a scan.

Colditz - Wishing you all the best too

Hi Beabea, I too had lots of bleeding and painful cramps early on in pregnancy, I'm now 27 weeks gone and truly am one of the lucky ones.
I hope you are as lucky as I was and will log on over the next few days hoping to hear news from you.
GOOD LUCK !! XX

Beabea · 18/09/2005 18:59

Thanks Flutterbee its good to hear positive stories.

Wishing that the rest of your pregnancy is happy and healthy.

Just as a final update - I beleive the baby has gone now. I had a large amount of blood loss last night along with large clots. Sorry if this is tmi.

Im ok. In fact I am quite relieved that it hasnt dragged on. We can also now go back to plan A and try again in the new year.

Best wishes to those in a similar situation and hoping that all goes well.

Thanks
