Just in a slight panic! Confused

I am 35 weeks pg. I have a DD who is nearly 2 and so I take her to lots of toddler groups etc. I can't keep her at home she is so full of energy and we have a very small house.

At the moment chicken pox seems to be all over the place. I have already had it, so am not worried about catching it, but I am really panicking about what happens if DD gets it when I have the baby. Someone told me that I wouldn't be allowed home or that I would have to send my DD away.

I had a horrific time on the post natal ward when I had DD and I am planning to come home as soon as I can after I have DC2, I don't think I could bear it if I had to stay in hospital. Equally I couldn't send DD away, she has never really been looked after by anyone else and if she's sick surely she will need her mummy?

Hopefully I am panicking for no reason, but have been winding myself up over this for days. :(

Any advice???

Oh what rubbish advice you have been given - I am miffed on your behalf!

If you have had CP then the new baby will be protected by your antibodies for the first couple of months. If you BF the baby will be protected for longer.

You might need a bit of help for looking after your sick DD, but hey, she may well NOT get it. Really, really don't fret until there is a reason to.

FWIW, my DS3 had CP when I was admittedly still pregnant (he was just under 2) and was a wonderful patient - basically just slept a lot.

Very best of luck. I hope you have a good birth and a lovely time getting to know DC2.

I was worried about this as I was exposed to someone with Shingles a few weeks ago when I was about 3 months pregnant, and I was worried as I had heard all sorts of rubbish too. But then I checked with a doctor who said that if you have had chicken pox, which I have, and you are immune to the virus, which I am, then all is fine.

So don't panic - you will all be OK. Smile
