Anyone else experiencing this? Am 15 weeks and getting a lot of pain in one hip, walking, getting up from chairs, turning over in bed etc.

Phoned midwives this morning and they suggested talking to GP but couldn't get an appt.

Feel about 95 years old.

I'm 16 weeks and for the last fortnight have been getting lots of pain in both hips! It's all round outer thighs/hips/buttocks/lower back. When I'm up and walking it's mostly back, but I sit all day at work, and buttocks and hips ache unbearably by the end of the day. Last night was at a friend's and could barely get comfy on her sofa because my arse ached so much. From what I've read about SPD it doesn't sound like that (it's aching rather than sharp pains) but it's bloody annoying. I'm assuming it's just due to the lower half of my body being rearranged by the baby and hoping it'll pass. Will be gloomy if I have 5 more months of this to go!

Thanks very much ecuse. It sounds just the same - sitting for a long time makes it particularly bad. I am very glad you don't think it's SPD.

How is it all going otherwise for you? Is this your first one?

That and extreme tiredness (better in last few weeks) are so far my only pregnancy symptoms, so I've lucked out so far!

Yep, it's my first, so it's all very exciting. How about you?

I don't think it's SPD based only on reading. Don't know if anyone with diagnosed SPD has a more informed opinion than me, though.

Mentioned it to GP at 16wk check today and she didn't say anything either, other than 'get a new chair at work' (which I didn't think was that helpful to be honest, since I didn't have this problem before I was pregnant).

I'm 16 weeks too and have been having very similar aches only in my right hip.

I had SPD with DS2 and this is totally different.

It has gone now .

I just really tried to take it easy for a few weeks, treating it a bit like SPD, not sitting cross-legged, trying not to cross legs sitting in a chair. And i found it sore going upstairs, so would do 2 stairs with left leg, no stair with right leg, etc. IYKWIM?

AFAIK you can self-refer to a physio when pg, i was about to do it when my aches eased off.

Good luck :)

Me too with the tiredness ecuse. Not my first but big age gap and I've forgotten everything that happened the first time round. Hope yours gets better soon.

Thanks justkeepsparkling. Very encouraging to know that yours passed. It does sound very similar.

This might sound odd but how tight are your trousers on your hips? I had similar pains (a little later on) in my first pregnancy and looser clothes helped. I don't think it's so much weight gain as the loosening of ligaments etc.

AlanMeasles · 05/11/2010 21:33

I must say I suspect weight gain is a contributing factor in my case. Have put on far more than is reasonable or healthy and really regretting it.

Am also getting headaches from hell which is v annoying.

My MW said it's to do with the joints and ligaments expanding for birth.
Have you tried reflexology (worked well for me) Also epsom salt baths with lavender drops and then rubbing some tiger balm on it? I have had crippling hip and back pain this time round but all of the above have done mini miracles for me and helped me sleep. Hope it gets better soon xxx

I am 14 weeks and got terrible pains in my left hip after I walked 7-8 miles one day this week. This never happened to me before. I did yogic hip opener poses the next day for about an hour or so, and the pain was gone within a couple of hours... I would highly recommend yoga. Try to stay in a pegion or double pegion pose for 10 minutes as a start -- your hips should definitely start feeling better. Good luck!
