I went for my 14 weeks scan today. I am having ID twins and so am being scanned more regularly.

They told us the one twin is smaller than the other. It is not TTS they have confirmed. They then proceeded to tell us what would happen if the smaller twin continued not to grow.

Both babies were within the normal range for my dates 15 weeks, the larger one is in fact at the top of the growth scale.

They were both really active on the scan and they have equal amounts of fluid around them, they are in seperate sacks. But the hospital have made me feel scared and worried..

I have posted on the multiple births thread, As of yet no one has got back and im sitting here freaking myself out that something is going to go wrong... Sad

Just asssumed because they are identical they would be exactly the same ..am I overreacting? feel really deflated...

Didn't want your post to go unanswered - what a worrying situation for you - it doesn't sound like they handled it very well

Have they asked you to go back? If not then surely that's because they don't think there's anything too serious going on? Can you call your midwife for reassurance?

Sorry you're going through this worry

I have identical twin boys. From the day they told me I was expecting id twins I had nothing but bad news. I was scanned every 2 weeks, sometimes weekly and they were always concerned. Mine did turn out to be twin to twin transfusion. There was always a discrepancy in size. Twin 2 was always much smaller but in a normal range. It then became apparent that the fluid wasn't equal. Mine were in the same sack with a membrane between them. I ended up having laser treatment on my placenta and although this stopped anythin sinister happening to them, twin 2 still remained much smaller. At birth (6weeks early) twin 1 was 5lb 60z and twin 2 was 4lb. Even now there is a noticeable size difference and they are 6. If your twins are within a normal size range then I wouldn't worry, you may find they start to even out and at least they are monitoring you. All the time the fluid is ok, hopefully so will the babies. Also don't forget you have one placenta supporting 2 babies. Dis you get to listen to their heartbeats?

Smile they are both within the normal size range. (infact twin 1 is actually at the higher end of the scale)
Both are really active, and both have the same amount of fluid around them.

I sometimes think doctors dont think before they open their mouths !

I am seeing a counsultant and have another scan
within two weeks. So just have to continue being healthy and taking rest. and TRY to stay positive...

Thank you for your above comments its easing my panic a little.....

i have id twins boys, and they were the same size all the way through till 35 weeks and then she thought they had started t deffer in size, so they were delivered. When they came out they were the exact same size and weight, so the scan had been wrong! Hopefully this is the case with you. It is odd that there would be a descrepancy in id twins but i assume they have checked the blood flow between the two ruling out TTS?

Hi hippy3
You're dead right. Doctors don't think and i really think you have nothing to worry about given the healthy size they are coming in at.
I've not had twins but at a recent scan for number 2 there were whispered conversations about the size of baby who seemed to be measuring far too big for dates. When I asked directly if I should be worried she said "maybe not yet". I had to walk around for an hour and come back for a second scan. Despite the fact they knew I had had a recent late miscarriage they were unbelievably insensitive about how their casual comments were sending my BP through the roof. When I came back for the second scan she immediately took my hand and said "I'm terribly sorry Ms Jaylar..." What she was about to tell me was that she had to scan someone else before me but by that time I was sobbing hysterically convinced the baby was not going to make it.

Sorry if I seem like I'm rambling but my point is that very often brain does not connect with mouth.

I'm sure all is well but go and get the reassurance you need from MW and let me know how it goes. See you on back to back sex thread soon.

My DH has twins, they were non identical but one was much bigger than the other and getting more than the fair share of nutrients etc. In the end his ex had an elcs a couple of weeks early, they were fine and still are :)

hi Yeah I was checked for TTS and both the sonographer and the doctor who saw me said it wasnt TTS just a natural occurance...

The fact that they were both so active and are around the sizes that they should be at this stage has reassured me. A tiny bit.

Am just checking my bump everyday to make sure its not gone swollen and hard, a sign of TTS and hoping that the smaller one will catch up???

Thanks for the support..will deff need it the next while I think ! Smile

My DH is still considerably smaller than his twin, and he's 40 next month! He's so much smaller, his family call him the afterbirth! Grin
