8 weeks pregnant with a sac of blood

I had a dating scan yesterday. They found one healthy heartbeat. Everything looked fine and said that I am 8+1.
Next to the sac was a small sac of blood but they didn't really explain this so I assumed that it was nothing to worry about, especially as they said I wont be seen now until 12 weeks.
However, I have just been looking on the internet and have seen that there is a 50/50 chance that this could end in miscarriage.
I am now really worried. Does anyone have any experiences or know any more about this? I had a healthy baby in March with no complications. Please help.

What did they say at the scan about it? Could it be a twin that stopped growing?
Try not to worry. I'd ask your midwife about it I think. Quite unusual to have a scan at 8 weeks.

No experience of it but surely you can persist in seeking answers from the midwife team? When you say they didn't really explain it, what do you mean -- did they say anything at all about it other than "there is a sac of blood"? Did they actually say you don't need to worry about it?

Hope it will be ok.

They basically just said "there is a sac of blood". I asked if this was normal and the midwife said "sometimes". She didnt speak very good english and to be honest, i wasn't impressed with the team when i had my last baby.
Thanks for the replies :)

I had this with my last baby, only I did not find out until the sac (and blood) was expelled. I thought I was having a miscarriage. After it happened (initially red blood, followed a few days/weeks later by a rush of very dark brown blood) it was explained to me that there was a slightly higher chance of losing the baby, but it certainly wasn't a 50-50 chance. I believe it was double whatever chance you would have without the empty sac.

All you can do is take extra care of yourself, don't overdo things (hard for you with a baby to look after) and hope for the best. Oh, and if you start to bleed, don't panic. With any luck it will be the empty sac expelling itself, and not your new baby. Good luck. Smile

The bleeding happened for me at about 9 weeks btw.

Hi i got told i had one of these at about 9 week's, i was on here asking the same thing.

Iam now 26 weeks and it was never mentioned again.

I was told if it was huge it could bea prob but little ones are fine, but if you have some bleeding not to worry as sometimes they just come away or absorb them selves.

Hi there

I had a scan last week and was measured at 5+6 weeks. They saw an area of bleed adjacent to the gestational sac. Told me that it was probably where it implanted and not to worry. Hope that helps.
