SPD making work a nightmare...

I have had SPD for a number of weeks now but it has been manageable. It is now awful (25 weeks) and I am in pain whatever I do.

I am really struggling at work and don't know what to do for the best.

I have seen my GP and am awaiting contact from the physio department (referred last Wed). I have an appointment to see my Osteopath on Wed as I am getting quite desperate.

-Sitting is uncomfortable
-I can only stand for about 2 minutes without holding on to something for support.
-Driving for longer than about 10 mins is very uncomfortable (my commute is 25-40 mins long depending on traffic)

I work in a busy hotel office 2 days a week and its killing me to get up/sit down all the time when I have to speak to guests. I am also the only senior member of staff on site for a few hours on a Monday afternoon so if there is a fire or something I am responsible. Likewise if someone has a complaint about their room I have to go up there and fix the problem. Just the drive to/from work is a major issue at the moment.

I don't get sickpay and I don't need the income from my job - I do it becuase I enjoy working and so financially it's not a problem if I take time off.

BUT I just feel as though I am letting the side down! My 1st pregnancy was a breeze but the two days a week I work I collapse into bed in agony and it takes me an age to get to sleep due to the pain.

I don't know what to do really :(

IME you'll have to adapt to get the SPD under control, especially until the physio starts to kick in. You may need to get signed off sick for a couple of weeks to give your pelvis a rest from the driving.

After doing physio for a few weeks, I found I could then drive for a longer and had fewer problems.

Thanks for your reply japhrimel and good to know the physio should have positive effects.....

Hope it doesn't take them tooooo long to get in touch!

Oh feeling awful today :(

Work were not impressed with me taking time off for my appointment tomorrow morning so agreed to swap my shift instead. Means I will be working until 8pm and from about 5pm onwards I can hardly walk so that should be interesting!

Have phoned the doctor who will call me back in the morning as I can't carry on like this with work.

Get your doctor to sign you off
life's too short

Yes I will speak to doctor tomorrow.

Has anyone else found people are not sympathetic becuase you're pregnant? As in, you got yourself into this now shut up and get on with it.... ?

I found people just did not understand how painful SPD can be. I also worked in a sit down/stand up type of job and ended up starting my mat leave at 28 weeks due to the pain and not being able to move quickly enough.

I could potentially start maternity leave on 28th of this month...I know I have a few days holiday to take too so maybe even sooner... maybe I should do that - thank you TheChewyToffeeMum
