Good morning all,

I'm around 8-9 weeks pregnant (DD - around 13th June) unfortunately suffering with IBS as well as morning sickness, lack of sleep blah blah blah...Confused

IBS is a relatively recent thing for me I only got diagnosed within the last 9 months but these last few weeks have been awful when I spoke to my Dr they suggest best not to take ANY medication.. :(

Any one got any suggestions please and thank you?

Soluble fiber is great for IBS and is fine/good during pregnancy, There's lots of info on using soluble fiber & diet for IBS on www.helpforibs.com/

I was told I could continue to take Peppermint oil (I think the one I have is Colpermin). It helps with the bloating. I tried not to take it too often but did when things were bad. If you don't want to take that anything peppermint would be good, peppermint tea maybe?

It's dull but a bit of exercise every day also helps me, I try and walk for about 30 minutes. You will find other ways of making things better I'm sure Smile

Had a really tough time with IBS during my second pregnancy. I was tested for salmonella because I was so ill. I had an upset stomach every day and it was exhausting. My dr wrote to the research dept at the local hospital to ask about the safety record for taking Imodium during pregnancy. The advice received was that there was no adverse effect on the foetus in women who had taken Imodium daily during their pregnancy, apart from the fact that their babies were very slightly smaller (and this was not proven to be anything to do with taking the drug).

I think I waited until the first 12 weeks were safely past and then took Imodium if and when I really had to. I felt guilty about it, but it was the only way I could get out of the house sometimes and I had another child to get to school. Had a very fit and healthy baby, who is now a very bright five-year old. Smile
