hi - posted before, but really suffering today with palpitations, feels like I have had them all day! - I have an ectopic heart beat in a normal sinus rhythm, but cant help worrying about it, which I know is probably making it 10 times worse, so is the fact I have sat on the sofa all day as it makes me feel like I cant concentrate on anything else - Does anyone else suffer with these - My consultant said I could take propanal beta blocker, which I took before I was pregnant, but to scared too, in case it harms the baby - any reassurance would be nice :)

Provided any heart problem has been ruled out it is all about managing the symptoms and not letting them dominate your thoughts. Try to get a good nights sleep, eat well and get plenty of fresh air and exercise, avoid stimulants like cola, coffee, tea. Sugary foods and drinks give you a sugar rush which can precipitate palpitations. Concentrate on slow release carbs.

If your palpitations are anxiety related try CBT via a book called Mind Over Mood. Try a relaxation tape (hypnotherapy) by Paul McKenna (the one about keeping calm) its excellent I've found when I'm stressed. Talk to people about any fears you have and get help. There are lots of other things but its often finding the cause and treating that (anxiety?) rather than treating the symptoms.

Ive seen a cardiologist and had lots of tests and just tell me to not worry, but they have got so much more frequent in pregnancy.. But I do suffer with anxiety and I know I make them worse by constantly thinking about if they are happening.. Just would like a day free of it at the moment.. Thx for the advice . I have cut out all caffeine but not sure could cut all sugar out, but will try to reduce :)

My DD had this recently following a very difficult 2 years with her DS, he has mild cerebral palsy. She did all the things above after having the 24 hour ecg tape to rule out serious stuff. She found sugar a particular bad thing re setting it off. Difficult as her DH forever buying fizzy drinks and sweets. Theyve pretty much stopped now, but she still has the odd days, but knowing theyre not serious is the best cure - as you say though, difficult to ignore! Good luck anyway with the pg.Smile
