Reasons for induction

Hi ladies. I'm 39+5 and due to see consultant on Monday (my due date) this was predominantly because I had some blood results that came back not so good with very low platelets... They were going to consider inducing me. I've had a couple of blood tests since this was recognised and the results are getting better, so I suspect they will not want to induce me because of this. However, I am massively uncomfortable and am desperate for them to induce me anyway. I know that sounds a bit bratty but I really am in so much discomfort. I have such badly swollen feet and ankles I can no longer drive or walk very well. The water retention has spread to my thighs and fanjo, making just moving so uncomfortable as everything is rubbing and sore... None of my trousers fit becausecof the swelling or my shoes. I feel totally housebound and verging on depressed... Is this a good enough reason to induce me or are they likely to laugh me out of hospital and let me potentially go another 2 weeks like this??? Any advice?

Induction does carry extra risks, especially early induction - the less "ready" your body is for labour, the harder it is to induce you.

Realistically, you're likely to go into natural labour in the next 1-2 weeks, so if there is no medical benefit to inducing you now (i.e there's no risk of letting you wait) then they may well be reluctant to induce.

I have OC, for which early induction is standard, but the docs are still hoping that my blood levels can be kept under such control I can go to 40 weeks because of the risks of induction.

I dont think they'll induce u earlier if ur medically well, they might agree to give u a sweep on your due date, but if its your 1st this might not work.Where i live they only let u go 12 days over

Thanks japhrimel I suspected that may be the answer but am so damn uncomfortable. I didn't know your body could retain this much water... Feel like my legs are going to explode :(

I totally get why you're desperate to get things moving Smile but induction can be horrible. Baby will be here soon enough! Not long now Smile

I was induced on my due date with DS3 at St Georges, London because my other 2 DSs were 2 weeks late and my first birth had complications. I went in and saw the consultant and was really upset and they agreed to induce DS3 on due date. I now live in Leicestershire and I am 38+5 with DC4 and my consultant has agreed to induce me at 41 weeks. It's worth a chat but they will probably book you in after Monday. Good luck.
