pre-pregnancy size (ish) - how soon after?

I only ask because La Senza have got a special offer on their PJs (BOGOF) and I was thinking I might stock up for the inevitable padding round the house not getting dressed thing after the birth. My only issue is sizing. I'm not sure I want to get two pairs of bigger ones that will only last maybe one winter, but equally I'm not sure getting my pre-pregnancy size would be sensible either....

any advice would be very welcome!

2 years to be back to pre pregnancy size

WidowWadman · 30/10/2010 10:12

10 months to be 3 sizes smaller than pre pregnancy (but I was fat before pregnancy and breastfeeding and exercise just melted the blubber)

roulade · 30/10/2010 10:17

3 months to pre pregnancy size.

twinsister · 30/10/2010 10:26

10 days but I looked awful

soppypreggyloon · 30/10/2010 10:26

i'd go for bigger ones tbh. not because you'll struggle to lose the weight but because if you have stitches or a cs it's nice to have a lot of room in the crotch/ waist area. Wink

i came home day 2 after a cs an nieghbour asked if i'd had the baby yet - "yes he's in the car!" was my reply before i hobbled into the house! Shock so was clearly huge still.

6 weeks of bf a hungry hippo and i was back in pre pg jeans. i then shrank some more and was hoiking jeans up like mad for a bit!

i'm hoping it'll be ok this time but i do hear dc2 weight is harder to shift!

niamh29 · 30/10/2010 12:16

It really depends on how much extra weight you put on during the pregnancy, baby weight is around a stone so anything more than that is what you will have left to lose. With my last pregnancy I only gained a stone (not intentional, had a lot of nausea) and was back in my clothes in 3 weeks.

ididnamechangeforthis · 30/10/2010 12:27

It took me a year to loose pregnancy weight, I was 8st (too skinny) when I got pregnant, and put on 2 1/2 stone.

Breastfed DD until she was nearly one, and by the time I stopped breastfeeding, it all came off. Although by about 5 months, I was about 8 1/2 stone.

This time round I was about 8 1/2 stone when I got pregnant and I'm only 23 weeks and think I've put on about 1 stone already if not more, and I think it is definately more (I haven't weighed myself) so I think I'm going to be bigger....soooooooo.....in answer to your question, I would buy bigger sizes still. You wanna be comfy, if you've had a c-section, the looser the better.

I'd go to somewhere cheap and stock up on their PJ's. :) All the best

ariane5 · 30/10/2010 12:27

with all 3 of my pregnancies i started at 9 stone, put on 4 stone with 1st, 3 and half with 2nd and 3 st with 3rd. bf, walking a lot (i dont drive) and fast metabolism anyway meant it was back to normal by my 6 wk check with all 3.

if anything i think it came off little bit quicker with no.3 as was so busy all the time with the other 2 as well.

BertieBasset · 30/10/2010 12:30

It took me 9 months, and I had a stone and a half to loose after DD appeared. It wouldn't shift for ages and then just melted off.

I'd get the bigger ones. Will be less depressing than if you get one of each and accidentally put on smaller pair.

I have been that person Grin

ididnamechangeforthis · 30/10/2010 12:31

I'm hoping my weight will come off a bit quicker this time round. Although I seem to be putting on more weight this time - my bum and thighs....urgggggghghhhhhhh

(sorry to hijack post)

:)

CrazyPlateLady · 30/10/2010 19:30

Took me 2 years. But then I can't exercise due to health problems.

I got back to pre baby weight, celebrated by buying some lovely size 10 clothes, then got pregnant again. [hgrin] Didn't really think that one through. The first time I had just bought 7 new bras and my boobs never did shrink after.

Faaamily · 30/10/2010 19:31

18 months both times.

rudbekia · 30/10/2010 19:55

ta for all the advice - it a tough one because i have put on weight but most of it seems to be bump/boobs with a bit extra on the hips/bum. the rest of me is still pretty much in proportion. i think perhaps something bigger would be best - as you say, if i end up with a cs a bigger waist is defo better! r

Are they vest top and pants PJs or shirt and bottoms? If shirt and bottoms, go with the bigger size anyway, because its nice to have PJs a bit baggy. And I always find that La Senza PJs shrink a tiny bit with each wash.

kingbeat23 · 30/10/2010 20:02

put on 4 stone with baby, as did DS and DM, and have lost the 3 1/2 so far (dd = 18 mo), but tbh, am not so fussed about it as I was before I had DD, I now have boobs as had none before, and am in the healthy guidelines still so am worrying about losing any more as the first place i lose it will be my bust.

If they are for padding around the house after you have had the baby, I would say go for one size bigger than you were before. If you are blessed with a fast metabolism (damn you!) then even if theyre bigger, theyre pjs and who gives a toss? :)

rudbekia · 30/10/2010 20:39

whenskiesaregrey - button/shirt top and bottoms. useful to know about La Senza shrinkage! thanks!
kingbeat - am fast coming to the conclusion that comfort is absolutely of the essence and i agree, if they're only for being round the house in, baggy is not an issue. i do have a fast metabolism (sorry......) but this being my first i don't have any idea how my body is going to react. i'd rather not have to worry about trying to squeeze into stuff post-birth. frankly there will be much more important things to worry about Grin

kingbeat23 · 30/10/2010 21:56

FAR more things to worry about...hopefully you will spring back to what you were once were, but i think you'll not give a shit! [hgrin]

I was asked by my xdps aunt 6 weeks after the birth if I was sure i wasn't pregnant because I was "so fat", but you know what, after suffering with body issues from my teens and eating disorders, I am the heaviest I've ever been in my life, but am actually happy with my hips and thighs and bum and boobs, which are bigger than they once were, but i really don't care....

I don't think you will either.

For what it's worth after a year of realising i wasn't one of the lucky ones who ping back with no effort (and couldn't be arsed with that effort either) I threw out all the clothes that didn't fit and bought a whole new wardrobe.

what's funny is, I didn't know what I suited anymore, as my body shape had changed.

TBH, I am now only 1/2 a stone heavier than what i was but now have to choose different clothes than before. Hipsters are out, the mummy tummy doesnt suit, longer tops, and fitted nipped tucked dresses.....

you will be fine..... Grin

MaudOHara · 30/10/2010 23:45

You may well loose the weight quickly but your body may well be a different shape - bigger boobs if BF and certainly your tummy will have stretched so a bigger size may be better.

KristinaM · 30/10/2010 23:52

i wouldnt bother buying new pjs at all

if you end up with a cs ( one in four odds) then the elastic might be uncomfortable

the ones with buttons are hard to bf in

you might bleed on them ( TMI I know)

being in PJs all day makes you feel like a slob, better to get dressed

rudbekia · 31/10/2010 03:21

thanks again to all who've replied Smile, the advice/input is really appreciated. i know it seems like such a minor thing in the grand scale of having a baby, i'm just trying to plan ahead a bit and also think of myself for more than five seconds. i'm finding more and more of my brain is taken up with baby-stuff and if i don't make sincere efforts i completely forget about me!

I like my pajamas baggy, so oversize isn't an issue, where undersize definitely is.

I was surprised by how long it took to get into normal clothes, so do think about a transitional wardrobe.

Was a 8/10 before, gained 12kg, back to 10 at 8 weeks but still 7kg over which didn't budge until I went back to work (At 4 months) now I'm less than before (8 months). Needed pregnancy jeans/tops for at least 6 weeks. Look back at what you wore when you first started getting bigger.
