Do I need to see doctor?

I'm about 6 weeks pg with #1 and have been suffering from thrush. Doc gave me the canesten pessary (the kind you do every night for 3 nights) which I started on Friday last week, and as the doctor didn't give me any specific instructions, I used the wee applicator doodah, assuming it was ok. The thrush seems to be clearing up, thank god, but since the last day I used the pessary (Sunday) I've had a bit of spotting, varying from brown to bright red. Definite spotting rather than bleeding - not enough to need a panty liner, just a bit when I wipe after doing a wee (sorry). No pain really, a bit crampy but no worse than any I've had so far.

So I turned to the University of Google (which is a terrible idea, as we all know) and read that lots of people have been told not to use the pessary at all, and if they do, certainly not to use the applicator because your baby will come out with 'canesten' imprinted on it's forehead or something.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if I need to contact the doc? I'm going back a week tomorrow so I'll mention it then, but should I contact them now? This is all new to me and I don't want to waste their time, and mine, with something that is probably completely normal.

Oh, I'm rhesus negative as well, and I seem to remember reading somewhere that that can cause problems if you bleed during pregnancy? But I may have got my wires crossed there...

I have no info of whether to use a pessary or not but if it will put your mind at rest get in touch with gp or mw you are not wasting their time.

Can't see why the applicator would be a problem. but the bleeding sounds different so I would speak to your doctor about that.

Hi I'm rhesus negative too and had a small bleed in my last pregnancy and needed a extra anti D injection so I'd get that checked out. Nothin major just to protect you and any future pregnancy. X

I'd get in touch because of the spotting.

Not using the applicator is because you can irritate your cervix with it, which is probably what you've done but better get checked.

I think you only need anti-D if you bleed later on, but as you know you're Rh -ve it would be good to find out exactly what you need to do when because of this.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. Don't have a MW yet as I've not had a booking in appointment so it'll have to be the GP.

Oh, I do hope it's just an irritable cervix... It would certainly tie with the way the rest of me has been feeling today. Smile

When I bled I was only a about 11wks and its anytime in pregnancy you need the extra injection if you blood so I'd get that checked if I was you. X

If you bleed sorry not if you blood. Bad baby brain lol. Xx

Any bleeding needs to be checked out.
However, I used canesten cream in early pregnancy, trying to clear up some thrush and am now convinced that my spotting was a result of using the cream. It happened twice over the space of the first 10 weeks, both times when I used the cream. I didn't twig at first and thought I was having another miscarriage, got very upset, went to EPAU and everything seemed to be ok, but didn't get the all clear until 16 weeks. I'm certain that the treatment can't harm the foetus, but can cause bleeding if you have an irritated cervix due to thrush or applicator. Get it checked out though!
