Sorry - another stupid question; this time about carrying a baby upstairs

I feel very boring with my stupid questions but here goes...

I had posted about living up a flight of stairs and needing a cot etc that could be parked in a narrow hallway etc.

We have now bought a McLaren. We have also purchased a car seat and will likely buy a carry cot.

But if I am out and about with the baby in the pram (just the pram) and get back and the baby is asleep, and I want to take him upstairs, do I just lift him out and potentially wake him? The reason we were buying all the parts - carry cot and car seat - was to have the bits to lift out with him and take up the stairs, but now it seems that he might not even be in those if we are just out for a walk.

To be honest, I reckon I'll end up using a sling, but it would be great to at least 'understand' this as at the moment trying to work out it out drives me nuts!

Thanks and HUGE apologies for being thick

Depends what he's like. If he was anything like mine as a newborn I'd leave him in the pram.

Oh will you be leaving the pram in the car? I live up a flight of stairs and do this. I used to just keep walking till he woke up! :)

Well i have always just left DS in the pram / pushchair when asleep and just drag up the stairs (24 here! / 2 flights!) very gently / slowly. Go backwards on the way up tipping the pram up on the wheels closest. On way down tip pram up on back wheels and bump down again slowly if babe is asleep. Not woken him once yet ... mrspear says with crossed fingers.

PS Gave instructions as stupid tries to go down with the pram pointing downwards [shudders]

If the baby is a good sleeper then lifting him to take him upstairs shouldnt disturb him, even if he`s not a good sleeper they usually fall back to sleep pretty quickly after being disturbed

but arent you buying the carrycot to go on the pram for this reason?
so if baby is asleep then just carry the whole caarry cot up first with baby still sleeping in it, then the rest of the pram.

if you are out with just the pram and baby sleeping then you will have to caarry him out if you live upstairs as you'll not be able to carry a pram up with a sleeping baby still in it tbh.
If he wakes he wakes!

I leave the pram downstairs and have to take the baby out to carry him upstairs - sometimes he wakes up, sometimes he doesn't.
