Bicornuate/Subseptate Uterus

Hello,

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and talking to my midwife after my scan she explained that I have a bicornuate/subseptate uterus, but not to panic.

Well, the not panicking thing is easier said than done! She said the pregnancy itself should progress fine but there's more chance of the baby being premature and also being breach, so a C-section being needed, and I'm now 'high risk' so will be closely monitored after the 20 week scan.

I guess I just wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom/advice/things to make me worry less!
Thanks!

I also have a bi-cornuate, retroverted uterus. It was discovered long before I fell pregnant.

I was not monitored anymore than anyone else and had a perfectly normal pregnancy. I was induced at 40+11 and had a 12 hour labour needing ventouse assistance as baby was a bit too big for me to push on my own.

Certainly no different to any women with a normal womb.

Maybe I was lucky, I don't know, but my bi-cornuate uterus was never mentioned during my pregnancy Hmm

I have this too. I have also had 7 mc's which they think is the possible cause (all early though as it is believed the embryo's implanted on the septate.

DS2 - my waters leaked from 30 weeks.

I am now 24 weeks and I am being monitered very closely. Ive been having a lot of braxton hicks over the last 24 hours so going to get checked in the morning.

You will most like deliver on time :) DS2 hung on until 38 weeks at this point section was done but thats due to a blood clotting disorder I have too :)

Thank you, both Smile
Sorry Julezboo about your mc's, but glad to hear you have your little ones! And good luck with your current pregnancy.
ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts - I'm hoping I'm lucky too. The sonographer didn't even mention it, just stuck it on my notes, so I'm kind of hoping it might not be too out of shape!
My mum said "And to think, you've had a weird shaped uterus all your life and never known". Gee, thanks mum!

I also have a bi-cornuate uterus and ended up with an emcs at 31+2 having been on complete bedrest in hospital since 26w as i had a complete placenta praevia.

My pregnancy wasn't the easiest (ds is 14 years old) and i am now pregnant again (9 weeks) and worried i will have complications again.

My son has 2 bent toe's- the same toe on each foot & i was told it was because he only had half the room to develop but i have a friend whose son was born with a couple of toes missing although i think this is quite rare.

I am under consultant led care because low lying placenta/placenta praevia are common amongst bi-cornuate uterus sufferers but i also have other complications with medication/allergies etc.

I think mine was an extreme case so i hope all turns out well for you.

I have a bicornuate uterus too.

In my first pregnancy I lost a twin, and they doctor said it might have been because that embryo had implanted on my smaller side.

The rest of the pregnancy went ok though although dd was breech and I had a section at 38 weeks.

My second baby was born at 34 weeks but the doctors were never sure if this was because of my uterus or just one of those things. I had another section because although dd had turned just before I went into labour, she was showing signs of distress very early on.

With dc3 everything went fine, although he too was breech. I had another section at 37 weeks (due to other problems).

When I originally found out about my bicornuate uterus I was told it might be hard to concieve, but I have never found this to be true in my case, although all 3 pregnancies did implant of bigger side of my uterus, which might be why.

Even though my pregnancy was relatively stress free I have had 3 mcs and am now struggling to conceive.

Maybe this has something to do with it. Confused

I also have a bi-cornuate uterus (two 'horns' with no septum)

I am 32 weeks pregnant now. Baby is in the left horn and has been breech at every scan and check. If he doesn't turn by 36 weeks, I will have an elective C-section booked for 39 weeks. I get a lot of Braxton Hicks but other than that, nothing out of the ordinary. I had a growth scan at 28 weeks and will have 2 more at 34 and 36 weeks.

The only other thing that I've noticed is that I get back pain on the right side - probably because I'm carrying the baby on the left.

Hope this helps and best of luck with the pregnancy :)
