Am still shaking, have just done two pregnancy tests that confirm will be having another baby next year (hopefully). DS is only 5 months old, am happy but scared how much hard work it will be with DS only being 14 months with a new baby, is there any other Mums with a small age gap? How did you cope?

Same gap as my two eldest. wouldn't change it for the world, they think of themselves as twins. Hard work yes, but aren't all kids? Can't say it's any ahrder than 2 year difference between ds's 2 and 3. Congrats, it'll be OK! (But buy a good sling that you can wear whilst pushing eldest in his buggy, double buggyes not always the best option).

Oh and buy a baby swing. Saved my sanity on many a night!!!

hi, im a 19 year old mum, i fell pregnant when my son was 10 weeks old (i had a daughter) now both aged 2 and 10 months and 1 and 10 months i also now have a 7 week old son. Being honest some people find it hard, some people find it easy but at the end of the day you learn to cope. I have and my 2 year old is disabled. Im sure you will be fine good luck

Spoo · 15/09/2005 21:45

Wow - Missycantstop. All admiration to you. I am 31 and feel I cannot cope with another baby let alone three and one disabled.
Inky, are you planning on going back to work between babies?

staceym11 · 16/09/2005 08:13

hi missycantstop, im 18 and ttc #2 my dd is 10 months old, do people comment much more when you have more than one? congrats on keeping your sanity with 3 under 3 tho! lol

Just had a thought - do I now need a double buggy. DS will be 16 months.

Congratulations Inkyminky, is not that bad really, and as somebody had already said, it shortens the agony and you will be out of the toddlerhood sooner than most people who waits longer.

Spoo, Get a sling for the baby and by the time baby needs the buggy your older one can use a buggy board

staceym11 · 16/09/2005 08:24

if you really wanted a double buggy, if not put the little one in a carrier on your front and the big one in a buggy, if the big one wants to walk the little one can go in the buggy, thats what im gunna do! (will be 20 mth or so between mine tho!)

pindy · 16/09/2005 08:30

Hi - 16 months between my two, the first 6 months was very hard but once the youngest could sit, crawl etc he then became dds "living dolly". They amused each other and still get on really well (most of the time) and yes they plot against me and dh!!! They are 11.8 and 13!!!

It was planned that way and if I had to do it again I would have exactly the same gap. Good luck and many congratulations!!!

biglips · 16/09/2005 09:08

congrats

Carla · 16/09/2005 09:17

IMHO a double buggy was a must - if not at first, then later.

MINNIE1 · 16/09/2005 09:26

congrads
My sister is leaving a gap of 14 months and she is looking forward to it. Will be stress full at times but she also has two older kids with 18 month gap and there the best of friends.. This will be no 4 and final and she will have her family. she always says it can only get easier..
wishing you all the best in your pregnancy

PeachyClair · 16/09/2005 10:31

We sold the double buggy within weeks, damned thing was nothing but a pain- Dh wills till point at poor poeple stuck with them and remind me of 'double buggy hell'.

Sling, then buggy board. If you go away for a lot of day trips then maybe a cheap second hander (esp. if you need to put them down for naps), but it's not essential IMHO.

missycantstop · 16/09/2005 12:45

hi i would advise you to get a double buggy. carrying a baby all the time can be stressful and is knackering. i wouldn't advise a buggy board as your other child is so young. my little girl is 22 months she couldn't stand all day it would hurt her legs so i got one with a seat and the dam thing broke in town while she was on it. now i have a triple buggy.

Coathanger · 16/09/2005 12:50

Congrats inkyminky!! Its all good - really. My DS1 and DS2 are 14 months apart and, although it was hard work, I loved having 2 close together. Now, at the ages of 5 and 6, they are best of friends. They each have a live-in play mate and they very rarely bother me. I went on to have a third, but I found having him harder, as there is a 3 year age gap between him and DS2.

I hope everything is okay and I wish you lots of luck! xx

PeachyClair · 16/09/2005 12:51

Mine had 13.5 months between them, Sam was OK to use a buggy board at about 24 months BUT I will admit he is physically advanced and we lived in a village, so had to go in the car to get anywhere... if you regularly walk a long way, may be a different story of course.

Ooh it was a lot of fun trying

And deliberate too! But i couldn't BF because of his allergies so that helped (I did BF but his weight dropped to about 4lbs!).

piglit · 16/09/2005 16:01

And don't believe the old wives' tale about not getting preg when you are breastfeeding....!

staceym11 · 16/09/2005 16:53

i wouldnt let dh near me till dd was6 month at least lol, was jsut such a scary thought!

Spoo · 16/09/2005 17:33

THanks for the advice all. I am starting to feel okay about it all. Feeling a bit tired tonight and not particularly looking forward to the next few months. I think I will leave the double buggy thing until after and only if I really need it. We have a baby back pack as well so we could do that. Anyway we will have to see. DS is pulling himself up already so it won't be long until his walking I think he might be okay. However the day of long shopping trips are over for little while!
