CONGRATULATIONS Grin
Sorry to say but its completly normal. Try eating little and often also you may be aneamic are you taking a pregnancy vitamin ? but the tiredness will stop, the dark nights dont help either do they ?

angels1 · 27/10/2010 07:47

yes, completely normal. It hits you like a truck the tiredness doesn't it? I was in no way prepared for how bad the exhaustion/nausea would be - all the books I had just said you might be more tired and feel sick every now and again - they didn't tell me I'd be pretty much confined to be for over 2 months and feel like I was going to throw up every second of every day for weeks on end Confused .

Eating little and often really helps the nausea - I know it feels wrong to make yourself eat when you feel sick but it really helps afterwards. Also, resting/sleeping as much as you cna manage makes everything seem a bit better.

Cramps normal too - I was knicker checking several times a day for a period for at least a month or so into my pregnancy as I was convinced it was coming due to the cramps!

Congrats and good luck [hgrin]

and when I say 'to be' I mean 'to bed' Blush

thanks for your comments, it really helps its so hard to know what to expect and its so hard not to be able to talk to anyone about it yet. i haven't got any pregnancy vitamins or anything yet, only just found out last week i'm pg and am only getting over the shock now! but i'm getting excited too, will be able to enjoy it more i hope when i don't feel like throwing up and/or sleeping all the time! thanks again

It is really hard. I'm 9 and a bit weeks and I've had to tell more people than I wanted to as I've been so sick there wasn't much I could do to hide it!

The tiredness does hit you like a truck. I've been suffering from sickness practically from the very start but it has got so bad in the past couple of weeks I've had to have time off work due to the amount I was being sick ALL day (and night too) and feel on the verge of being sick most of the time

I've been told it does get better (although some people feel very sick/are sick for much longer) I really hope it stops soon!

It will be worth it in the end but that doesn't stop in being flippin hard now! Grin

try buying a pregnancy book jill. That's what my GP suggested as I knew nothing about anything re: pregnancy. She recommended 'what to expect when you're expecting' as a good book - and it answers lots of questions I have/had.

Btw vitamin wise some people say pg vits make them feel more sick as they are high in iron. The main important vitamin to take as soon as you can and throughout the first tri is folic acid. Iron is useful (as pg people have a tendancy to be anemic) but not essential so long as you get good iron in diet (I take 'floradix' iron as it's gentler on the tummy). Some people say vit b6 can help with nausea too.

rubbersoul if it helps my worst week was 9 weeks. This seems common with lots of people here. From about 13 weeks it slowly started to lift, and now, at 23 weeks, I'm still on anti sickness pills and have to be careful with eating often/resting etc but it's so much better than 9 weeks - I can cope now (most of the time!) but spent most of first tri in tears with feeling so ill. And most people by now it's completely gone - I'm just unlucky, apparently :( oh, and if you can't coep at work go to your GP - I was signed off for weeks as I was so bad.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 27/10/2010 10:27

It's amazing that a tiny little embryo can make you feels so terrible isn't it?

I remember around 6 weeks waking up in the night just to feel nauseous. Just somebody opening the fridge 3 rooms away made me feel so sick I'd retch. And the exhaustion. Honestly, walking to the door to answer it was a mammoth task some days.

I thought late pregnancy would be the hard bit. Nope. Was a breeze. The first few weeks however were like having a particularly nasty virus at all times.

Congratulations - yes it's normal I'm afraid. I found eating raw almonds a great help, and also fresh crunchy apples.

For both my pregnancies I found the sickness left almost exactly at the end of the 12th week. Though I'm still very tired (but I put that down to being quite old). I'm 13 weeks now & still can't have a toothbrush in my mouth for more than 30 seconds. Actually I count 30 secs brushing a huge success.

Great suggestion about re good pregnancy book - the NHS do an excellent one, though you don't get it until quite late in your pregnancy from memory. There are 1000's of books out there - I liked this book that covers all the bases

rubbersoul · 27/10/2010 13:14

angels1 thanks, it helps to know that it's typical around week 9! Glad you're finding it abit better now Smile

I was signed off by the doctor last week due to me being sick alot at work and am thankfully off this week as it's half term. It's hard as I felt so guilty at having to have time off last week, but it just wasn't practical having to run out to be sick all the time at work. I admit I have spent some of the evenings in tears feeling so ill Blush

jillamona · 27/10/2010 13:29

its so great to find out that this is all normal, i'm going to go straight out and buy a pregnancy book. the sickness comes and goes with me, its definitely true that making yourself eat something small helps, i think i was making it worse by eating nothing all day and then being hungry and nauseaous at the same time, a weird sensation. angels1 what anti sickness tablets did you use? i am worried as i have a 3 hour bus journey to go on a work trip in 2 weeks, i find travel makes the sickness worse

well I think you should see your GP before taking anything. I have something called 'cyclizine' which I think is prescription only. Before that I had 'avomine' which is over the counter, but I wouldn't advise taking it without doctors instructions, and it did make me incredibly drowsy too btw (I think it's a sedative as well as travel sickness med).

angels1 · 27/10/2010 13:33

oh - just another thought - have you tried the travel sickness wrist bands? They have been my best friend since getting pg! You cna get them from boots for less than £10. There's also an iphone app called 'nevasic' that helps your inner ear for pregnancy/travel sickness when listened to on headphones - both could be worth a shot for your bus ride?

jillamona · 27/10/2010 21:23

great thanks will try those, but think i might end up not going. got sent home from work tonight because i was sick and one of the girls asked was i pg i'm so bad at fibbing, i didn't want to tell people so early but theres not much you can do to hide it when you're being sick at work!
