Hi ladies, this is my first time posting on this wonderful website. Im just after a bit of advice.
Found out i was pregnant on Saturday, worked out id be about 5 weeks. We are so thrilled, we werent exactly trying but we are sooooo thrilled with the news and cant stop talking about 'peanut!'
Today - this is going to sound gross but im so worried - i was having a number 2 and afterwards i noticed that i was bleeding it wasnt much, like a light pink discharge i get at the start of a period and its stopped now but im so worried ladies.
I have been having cramps since the day i was due on my period and have also been having sharp stabbing pains quite low down.

Im going to the doctors for the first time this evening and i will obviously tell him all this but i just wanted some advice off people who may have been through it or know of it, my doctor is an incredibly unsympathetic man!

Thanks ladies xxxxxxx

Hard to say. Could be implantation or v early MC. I experienced very light bleeding at 5 weeks in both scenarios. Cramping around period time is normal in pregnancy.

Hope you have a positive outcome.

Thanks....cant wait until 4.45 this afternoon to see doc!

I can't say about your specific case, of course, but I understand that light pink spotting/streaking is not unusual and I had mild 'period crampy' pains on and off for the first 12 weeks or so (am now 15 weeks with my first). Good idea to talk to the doctor about it. Crossing my fingers for you.

sh77 · 26/10/2010 12:21

Have you seen the thread from today about spotting at 5 weeks. The poster had scan and saw heartbeat.

1Catherine1 · 26/10/2010 12:22

As Sh77 said... could be something or nothing. The pains however are perfectly normal and will continue for a few weeks.

Good luck this afternoon, but if you don't like your doctor you can always ask to see another doctor or specify a "lady doctor" if you would expect her to be more understanding - although this isn't always the case.

Yes, don't assume that female doctors will be more sympathetic. The one I saw following MC was a total bitch. The one I saw to update on preg following 2 MCs and loss of baby after birth at term was indifferent.

CrazyPlateLady · 26/10/2010 16:28

Hope its all ok.

I had 'period' pains for the first 4 months with DS, he is now 2.9. I'm pregnant with DC2 (24 weeks) and I keep getting the odd 'period' pain at the moment.

It is very common so hope it all works out. [hsmile]

Went to see doc and my normal one was off sick so saw a lovely female doc. She said that as the pregnancy was so early there was nothing she could do and that i should just book in with the midwife and see what the scan shows up. I asked when the scan would be and she said between 8 and 10 weeks.
She had a feel of my tummy and took my blood pressure and suggested that if the bleeding gets bad i go to a&e.
I cant say im exactly thrilled with that as its a long time to have to wait but i guess ill just have to wait and see. The midwifes off at the mo and the receptionist said she would get her to call me sometime next week.
Thanks to everyone for their advice

There really isn't much that can be done at such an early stage, so its a waiting game. A scan would not likely be conclusive before 8 weeks, so no point really, unless an ectopic is suspected. And very early miscarriages are likely to be complete and natural, so don't need interventions anyway.

GPs are often very matter-of-fact about early miscarriages because they happen so often.

VegasBride · 26/10/2010 18:49

good luck hope all goes well, had lots of cramping all through 1st 12 weeks

RoxieP · 26/10/2010 19:23

I had an early scan at 6 weeks because I was getting quite severe period-type pain and occasional stabbing pain on one side- but no bleeding/spotting. I went to a drop-in GP at the hospital as my GP had no emergency apts and they sent me straight to the emergency gynae dept and I'd had the scan within minutes. It was reassuring as you could see the little heart beat and it confirmed that at least it was in the right place and not ectopic. They warned me though that even though the baby was there and alive at that point that early miscarriages are still very common and my symptoms are typical of one! So reassuring but not really at the same time! The only reason they did a scan that early was to ensure that I was not in danger of an ectopic pregnancy that was a danger to ME - not to try and save the baby as once a miscarriage starts there's very little they can do unfortunately. I'm 29 weeks now and going strong!
