I've always wanted children and when DP and I discovered I was pregnant we were both really excited. However, shortly before discovering we were pg I was sold to a new company an hour and a half's commute away (under TUPE). My old company was a 25-minute bike ride each way.

They've cut my team to the bare bones, it's near impossible to take time off as no one covers my work and the commute is so knackering that I thought it was just that making me so exhausted until DP pointed out I'd been nauseated every morning for a week.

I am now 17+1. Today it took me three hours to get in because of train delays and I'm at my wits' end. I was actually disappointed when a suspected urinary tract infection was ruled out as it means I'm this uncomfortable and exhausted just because of work.

I can't really work part-time or from home because of the new team structure and I'm just miserable.

Someone tell me I'm not making a fuss.

Sounds crappy!
and if its affecting you this much now then it's only going to get harder I'm afraid, and what about once the baby's here and maternity leave is finished?
I'd start thinking hard about your future plans...

I am believe me. We were hoping I would move jobs, then start a family but I managed to get pg during the consultation period and was sold when already three weeks gone before I even knew!

At least, baby's just moved. I love it doing that.

Do you get a good maternity package with your current job? could you afford to have just statutory maternity pay?
how easy is it to find another job in your area/field?

if you could manage on just statutory mat pay then finding a job now will be a lot easier than finding one once the baby's arrived - then you'll have more chance of negotiating flexible working etc, you'll be able to plan ahead for childcare etc.....

I'd talk to your GP or MW. Just because it's "just" being pregnant and working doesn't mean that feeling awful shouldn't be taken seriously. If your GP signed you off for 2 weeks, it might get your work to get their act in gear about finding cover and/or enabling flexible working for you.

Ditto to the above poster you pointed out it'll only get worse too - the earlier you sort out what to do, the better.

My package is three months full pay and then statutory maternity pay. I have to stick it out for now as we need the cash but DP is hoping that I won't have to go back.

My work field's flat at the moment (hence me being sold off) but II think I'm going to have to look elsewhere.

Sad

do make sure you're tested for anemia etc as well, make sure you're eating really really well and take as much time as possible for yourself when you're not at work.

make sure you get a seat on your commute, learn some breathing exercises to help you relax, maybe even book in for some acupuncture, which can really really help with lots of things, I know many who tried it for the first time when pg and now swear by it.

Get some books about baby stuff out of the library and read them on the commute, focus on when your baby's here and this crappy bit will hopefully whizz past.

Try and let all the office rubbish pass you by, it won't be your concern for that much longer.

Feel better already, thanks for all the advice. I'm just annoyed that I can't enjoy this time because work are so crap.

RobynLou, I've been tested for anaemia as well because the mw was worried I was so knackered. They're not at all happy with my working conditions.

Good point japhrimel. My GP's actually super lovely so perhaps I'll have a chat with him about it and see what my options are. I'd feel guilty about taking time off because my colleagues will suffer but that's something the company will have to address.
