I am sorry I am new to this and am very curious to know what raspberry tea and evening primrose oil supposed to do?

pinkyp · 26/10/2010 10:31

raspberry leaf tea is suppose to help tone the muscles to help make the 2nd stage of labour shorter / make the contractions more effective and stronger/ The evening primrose is suppose to help soften and ripen the cervix.

I'm not too keen on inserting the epo but i might give it a go bout 38 weeks

When can you start drinking the tea and taking the evening primrose capsules?

I started drinking tea at 34 weeks, and i've only started taking evening primrose from 35. I think they advise not to drink rasp leaf tea until the 3rd trimester. In holland and barret they said not to take rasp tablets until 36 weeks

I have a theory about raspberry leaf tea (not that you've asked but I'm going ahead anyway...) (and I thought it did something to encourage your uterus to get busy, but plausibly not) anyway, my theory is that for some people it works alarmingly well/fast, and for most it doesn't seem to make any odds. My mum drank it when preg with my brother, and he was born 2 days after she started drinking it, and labour lasted about 2 hours.

I drank it with DS1, and started at 38 weeks. He was born in 4 hours at 38+2. So this time around (am 12 weeks pregnant) I am a bit nervous of drinking it! So be a bit careful - don't start too early!
