What are the chances of baby arriving before induction date?

Hello all

I have been given a date for induction next week. I would rather not have one, but after a less than easy pregnancy, I am also feeling almost relieved that there is a definite end in sight and that next week I know I will get to meet Baby at last. I have heard that feeling a bit more relaxed and philosophical about things can actually help bring on labour - in as much as anything can help bring on something so completely unpredictable :)
Just wondering if anyone out there found that they went into labour naturally before their induction date? Cervix today was closed though slightly effaced (if I haven't got my terms mixed up) and properly aligned and the head is almost 4/5 engaged. I know I am not technically on the brink of labour, but I guess it can all suddenly go pop without warning?

Unfortunately it's not an exact science so it's impossible to say! Still you have a week and it sounds like things are going the right way. Fingers crossed you do go into labour naturally. I've heard talk on here about the wonders of nipple stimulation. I've not tried it myself as I haven't been over due, but if I was I would give it a go!

Best of luck, not long now and you will meet your baby Smile.

No idea is my useless answer to your question!

But I've just been for an acupunture sesssion to relax me to hopefully encourage my baby to arrive as my baby is currently running late (same as me, who was 2 weeks late!)
It made my baby wriggle and move loads. I had it to relax me and if baby doesn't arrive by the end of the week I'll go back for a full on induction session where my acupunturist will use every point and really tell baby its time is up and its time for entering the world outside! Grin

You could try having an induction session with an acupunturist who will prob do points in the legs, feet, hands and around the scarum to set things off. It can be very successful in some people so it may be worth a try :)

yep i did. went into labour the night before induction was due.
doesn't mean you will tho! lol

have you been offered a sweep if you'd rather not be induced?

With DD1 I went into labour day before induction, I saw loud action film in the cinema!!!, with dd2 I had induction, seriously thought it was much easier than dd1s birth. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies folks. I am resigned to the possibility of induction because I know that, as the sensible midwife said, pregnancy has to end some way - naturally or otherwise. At least I know that one way or another, baby will be here by the end of next week! That is something to look forward to regardless of how it happens :)

I went into the labour the day before my induction was due to take place. I refused the first induction as this would have been at less than two weeks overdue and both my baby and I were fine, no complications at all during pregnancy.

(The day before my labour started I doused my self in clary sage oil. inhaled it, had a bath in it, had it in an oil burner etc etc)

I went on to have a really enjoyable, relatively quick labour - I think in part this was due to the huge sense of relief I had at not being induced.

Either way though you'll get to meet your beautiful baby very soon and that's incredibly exciting!
