Sorry this is so long but am getting desperate.... I'm currently 11 weeks with dc No 2. With dd i had a couple of dreadful weeks suffering from some kind of spd / sciatica type pain when about 6 mths preg. It went after a couple of weeks but at the time was awful (sharp pain in top of buttock and I used to get almost frozen leg sensation). Anyway in the last week the old pain in buttock has started to flare up again. Not dreadful yet but sharp pains when walking for a while or say crossing legs. Wearing heels definitely out! I popped to Gp on fri who asked what I had been told to do last time. That was basically take to the sofa until it gets better! he has said I have to do this again, take a week of work, dont walk very far and dont pick up dd (19 mths). Well I am only 11 weeks gone and completely panicking. I dont want to take time off so early on, my boss knows but no one else and am worried about being pregnancy related sick so early. Also dd is only just walking so not picking her is almost impossible.. also I hate the idea of spending the next 7 ish months not being able to do things with her Sad. Just wanting to ask wise MN for any stories of similar and whether trying to continue on (carefully) now is going to lead to more serious problems later?? Sorry this is a bit rushed and garbled am posting in stealth at work.... xx

sitting on the sofa is definitely NOT the answer & in fact sitting down for long periods makes the pain worse.

I had the exact same problem & with me having a desk job it became unbearable!

So I took up yoga...the pain was gone afer my very first class and has not come back.

You could give that a try? I only go once a week so not a huge commitment. xx

Oooh, have just posted with very similar problem - wasn't sure what it was, though. Don't know of anything to help as haven't experienced this before, but wanted to show support. Good luck!

Too sorry to hear you are suffering as well. How far on are you? Dont know if you have had any other pearls of wisdom from other thread but hoping it passes v soon for you.

Get yourself a bithing/exercise ball - they sell them in ADSA and there're not that expensive, go for exercise not pregnancy as there is no difference other than cost i.e birthing balls cost twice the price. They're just the best thing for sitting on, and get one for work too (or get them to buy you one) as it's much better than spending a lot of time in a chair.

Make sure you get the right size for your height. Your hips need to be slightly higher than your knees.

Mine has been a life saver for both my pregnancies. And you can drape yourself over it too, to take the pressure off your back in later preg and this aparently helps get your baby into the right position for birth.

I'd ask for a physio referral and see if you can find a specialist masseuse near you that will do pregnancy massage. Myofascial release massage therapy is excellent for stuff like this.

when I had problems with my pelvis when pg with DD I got myself referred (through midwife) to the maternity physio - got an appointment within a couple of days & they were really good, sorted me out, worked out why I'd got it (sitting on sofa at weird angle) and exercises to do to help stop me getting it again.

i echo all of the above - yoga, birthing ball, chiropractor (pg specialist). Also, sleep with a fat pillow between your knees and ankles (not your thighs). Works like a dream.

thanks everyone. Been out and bought low heels. I dont possess a single pair under 3 inches for work!! Havent walked so far today except I had to carry dd part way home from nursery as she went bonkers in pushchair. Am now feeling v sore! I have a ball from last time.. didnt think I would be needing that so soon!! Grin Yoga starting in two weeks and am going to enquire about chiropractor... thanks for advice much appreciated. x
