Just wondered as I was back to back with ds and don't fancy that a second time.

My first dc was back to back, second one wasn't. Apparently it can be due to the position of the placenta as babies like to face it in utero. My placenta was anterior in my 1st pregnancy and posterior second time round so that may be it. I think sometimes the shape of your pelvis may also have something to do with it that just makes it more comfortable for the baby to be back to back.

Have a look at optimal foetal positioning to see if there is anything you can do to help get the baby into a good position. Good luck,.

Both DCs were back to back, my midwife said i'm one of those women with a pelvis shaped that way to make it more likely. - It's more common for the first to be back to back, not necessarily so with the 2nd though. - With DS I needed ventouse, but my 2nd delivery was much easier and quicker with DD. - I knew much more 2nd time around about the positioning, that I'd want to push much sooner that I'd be able to and the pain would be muich more in my back, so I was a lot more prepared for it, and managed on just gas and air. (She was a whopper at 9lb 9oz though, so I'm convinced that helped her out!)

If your uterus and pelvis are not shaped in a way to encourage it, then it could be down to your typical posture/position, e.g. if you spend a lot of time sitting with your pelvis tilted back then it's also more likely.

My DS (first child) was back to back and my labour was long and painful and involved an hour and a half of pushing.

My DD (second child) was not back to back. The labour was easy and the pushing took 4 minutes - two pushes and there she was! I must admit it rather took me by surprise as I was convinced I'd be in for the long haul again.

Now PG with DC3 and will clearly be talking to him/her in the womb to advise positioning like sister not brother!

So there you go, no reason for a second back to back at all.

Thanks, I am very nervous about this time. I was calmer about it the first time round.
