Just buying some knee highs to go with my new maternity tunics/leggings etc.. Anyway, I think I read somewhere that you should think about putting the heels away at 20 weeks - is this realistic?! just not sure whether I need flats - any advice?!

I love my high heels but sadly don't know how much longer i'll be in them (19weeks currently). I got in from a fairly on my feet day at work and ached from my boobs down.
the heels throw you forward and put your spine and pelvis out of kilter. [hsad]

Heels give me terrible cramp in my calves so I can't wear them now (22wks) so I have to live in flats.

I fell over and landed on my bump on Monday and I wasn't even in heels - I think they're a bit risky when you get bigger.

I'm 29 weeks btw

ah ok - thanks! I'm only 16 weeks but no point buying heels if I'm only going to get a few more weeks out of them! hope you were ok after the fall paige

I wore heels throughout my first pregnancy. Whatever you feel comfortable in.

I read that the best style in pregnancy is 2" chunky heels, as both proper heels and flats are not great. First pregnancy though, so not tried and tested this yet :-)

I wore heels til about 26 weeks, invested in some flat knee highs for the later stages (Im 35 weeks now) and glad I have, I've become really clumsy and unbalanced, and I find my legs get tireder quicker which Im sure would be worse with heels...

My friend is a week ahead of me and she is in hospital at the minute after having fallen down the stairs in heels last weekend.

I think they advise you not to because your ligaments etc in your legs and back become more stretchy? Dont quote me on that!

I think it is preference though!

Oh...but I have bought 2 sets of 6 inch heeled boots for after my pregnancy as a treat :-)

Chynah · 23/10/2010 21:41

I wore high heels til the day I gave birth to both mine (I am only 5'1" !!)

rpickett · 23/10/2010 21:52

I wore 5inch heels throughout my pregnancy with DS1, couldn't be bothered with DC2/3 though as lifting DS1 would have been risky, but if your comfortable wearing heels wear them. BTW I'm the sort who falls over her own shadow so flats would make no difference to me.

I wore heels up until 32 weeks but then it got too painful for my back. If I didnt have SPD I reckon I could possibly still be wearing them (35weeks).

slimyak · 25/10/2010 14:08

I'm not really a high heel wearer but I do wear a 1.5 to 2 inch wedge to support my dodgey foot, so I don't think I was at falling risk. I'm 27weeks and had to invest in some proper flats as my pelvis was really aching, the SPD is back. I'll go sore foot over knacered pelvis any day.

I went for flat boots in the end, I'm prone to falling over.. had huge chest even before pregnancy and I think that combined with pregnancy tummy means I'm liable to tip over in heels :)

They did look lovely though. And I think I'll definitely buy some lovely high heels for post pregnancy
