Snowsuits

Just a little question for those that already have DC's, are snowsuits large fitting in general? I have a 0-3 month snow suit but it looks REALLY big, Im having a December baby and wondering if it's going to be worth buying a new born snow suit?

I think the general consensus is that this baby is going to be a fairly big one, Im measuring 2 weeks ahead at 34+ 3

I am due in Dec too, i have bought a 0-3 suit. Dont think the new born size would last till feb/march.
Snow suits always tend to look big at first, remember you got to fit clothes underneath too.

laurenamium · 22/10/2010 23:52

ahhh this is a good point! Il risk it and order one online if she is too small for 0-3 when I need one...its a bit exciting! Websticks are you on the december thread? Its quite fast moving but good if you want the link :-)

To be honest, snow suits are so tricky to put on babies, the slightly bigger the better IMO!

pinkyp · 23/10/2010 12:20

can you buy a pram suit? like a snowsuit but thinner? I got a snowsuit 0-3 months (late nov baby) and a pram suit in new born. You should be fine as you'll be using blankets / footmuff for pushchair etc. I also got a carseat wrap from babiesrus which says its suitable from 0-6 months

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/10/2010 12:49

IME they are gigantic, but DS had and still has quite short legs in relation to his body.

My recommendation would be to go for a separate coat and trousers - makes emergency nappy changes easier too.

You can never have too many blankets.

laurenamium · 23/10/2010 13:04

Ive got a footmuff on my car seat and a wrap from babies r us too, so I suppose this will be enough if the 0-3 month snowsuit is too big...I think Im just a bit addicted to shopping and making excuses to buy more than I need Grin

Thanks all

Dd3 is now approx 8lb and her 0-3 m is too big although she has been wearing it. Newborn stuff doesn't last long enough to be worth it with more expensive clothes. If you get a cheap newborn one it might be worth it.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 23/10/2010 13:25

Also depends on your pram too. When mine were in carrycot thing on pram i never ever used a snow suit. Always just used a jacket with extra blankets and things far easier to remove extra blankets when you go indoors than a whole suit. Also getting a baby into a snow suit can be like getting an octopus into a rubber glove so a bit bigger can be better but you might find 0-3 massive but not for long they are out the newborn stuff before you know it.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 23/10/2010 13:28

And just mean depends on your pram because carrycots i fund are a bit less exposed than a pushchair and cosytoes thing so did dress them differently.
If it makes you feel better i just got ds2 his first snow suit he's 4 months and he looks like a combination between a badly stuffed teddy bear and a marshmallow Grin

sam12 · 23/10/2010 13:38

Dd has got a newborn one she is just over 8lb and it is still too big for her- I think it will last for quite a bit yet.
She also has a 0-3 months one which is huge on her.
They aren't as easy as blankets but they look so snuggly! The one I've got has got zips down both sides to make it easier to put on because it can be a struggle!

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 23/10/2010 13:40

Get a fleecy snowsuit if you can rather than a puffy one. I had an emile et Rose one and it was fab.

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 23/10/2010 13:44

Does anyone think this is worth it?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/10/2010 15:37

Honestly? No.

It is lovely, but unless you live in the north of Scotland or somewhere else where you will need such an outfit on an almost daily basis then the baby won't get the wear out of it.

Buy a snuggly waterproof coat (you'll be able to get one for a newborn/0-3 months for less than £20 - much less depending where you shop), but just get some fleecy leggings with feet.

Mostly when you go out, the baby is going to be in either the pram, or making a v.short outside trip from car to house.

Next winter when they are bigger and sitting up in a pushchair is the time to spend more money on an all-in-one or proper outdoor trousers, in my experience anyway.

Dee78 · 23/10/2010 15:41

If you'll be using a baby carrier outside lots maybe, otherwise, unless you've got money to burn then no. The 0-6 month size range means it will be huge ona baby until they are at least 3 months old. It is absolutley gorgeous though

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 23/10/2010 15:46

Ds will only be 3.5 months at Christmas. Oh well, it can go on the list for next year maybe. Bloody lovely though.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/10/2010 15:49

Dee - I would have thought something with feet though for the carrier? DS could never keep a pair of socks or bootees or anything on. Fleecy legs with feet are the way forward! Grin

Ethel - it is lovely, I agree. If you have cash to splash then go for it, but there will be a ton of things that you will need to buy over the first 6 months of your baby's life anyway :)

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 23/10/2010 15:51

Don't bother with a snowsuit, get something like
this

or if you are using a baby carrier
this

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 23/10/2010 16:09

Libra I like the hoodies. May look into them further. Did want something with feet though, the Wallaboo can be separate top and bottom so it is versatile. Expensive though.

laurenamium · 23/10/2010 17:07

libra I have the babies r us version of the hoodies :-) a little ladybird one with a hood and legs too :)

dikkertjedap · 23/10/2010 21:35

I had a JoJoMamanBebe snowsuit with one of those BabyBjorn active carriers with a wintercover, very snug!

pinkyp · 23/10/2010 22:17

i think they'll look fab lauren! I think they did another one too but cant remember what it was now.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 24/10/2010 09:53

Tbh unless you go for longer snowy walks in either a pram or a baby carrier a snowsuit is overkill and a waste of money. They are a nightmare to keep undoing/doing up etc as you keep going into shops or the car or peoples houses. A wrap like the bug in a rug or morrck is much more sensible as they are so easy to throw back when you get into the shop/car/house.
