Ectopic?

Hi,

I think I'm about 4+4 (hard to tell since I was heading for a 9-week cycle. I have long cycles and was about to start blood tests to work them out).

Got my BFP last Thursday and the tests were progressively darker and thicker lines until Wednesday, and I haven't done one since. My boobs were hurting (though fluctuating between not much pain and lots) all that time.

Today I suddenly had a really sharp pain at the top of my abdomen and then to the left, so bad I was doubled over for about 5 minutes. The pain has subsided now but every now and again I get these weird stabbing pains in similar areas. At the same time, my boobs have gone totally back to normal. There's no pain at all, not even if I prod them. It's just vanished - they were really sore this morning.

I phoned NHS Direct and the nurse said I should go in and be checked for an ectopic. As the stomach pain subsides I have started thinking I'm just being dramatic and it may have been wind or something Blush. I'm worried about the total loss of pregnancy symptoms though.

Should I go to the hospital, or just wait it out and see what happens? Has anyone else had this. Am I being totally neurotic?

Hi,

I'm pregnant with my 3rd, and with my 2nd and this bubba i had terrible side pain!

With 2nd i was on holiday and was so scared, it went on for a good few week's, i went to see my doc who wasn't at all concerned, thankfully all was ok, i was told it's ligaments, so this time i kinda new what it was.

Loss of symotom_ - 4+4 is soooo early to have symptoms anyway, mine where on and off worryinbg me all the time.

I thik with side pain should always get checked out, and it will give you piece of mind, my doctor exmained my tummy and could tell from that?! im not sure if that is reliable but get it checked.

Good luck

you must be checked out

if it is ectopic, it could be dangerous, if NHS direct have adcvised you to be checed, you should be , symptoms can come and go

Thank you so much ladies. I went to the hospital (just got back now) and they gave me bloods, urine test, ECG and all sorts. Definitely not ectopic, maybe just wind Blush, and I told them I was 5 weeks pregnant and they said my HcG levels were nice and high, and that my pains are not going to bring on miscarriage. (That's not to say, obviously, that they can guarantee I won't have one, just that things are fine at the moment).

Sooooooo relieved. Have got to stop being neurotic now. Really pleased the levels were high for five weeks - perhaps I'm a little more preg than I thought I was.

Thank you for replying ladies.

Did they scan you?

pinkyp · 23/10/2010 12:17

i went to hospital at 5 weeks with pains and they had to scan me as apparently i was at the perfect age for a eptopic pregnancy and they could only tell by doing a scan - i wasnt

takethatlady · 25/10/2010 07:13

Hi ladies.

Thanks. No, they didn't scan me. They gave me blood tests, urine tests, an ECG because my heart rate was high, blood pressures twice, and pressed their hands all over my stomach. By that time the pain was subsiding and they said I would be presenting totally differently with an ectopic. They also said my levels

I have had no pain since about an hour after I came home from the hospital and my sore boobs returned with a vengeance last night, so they must have been right.

Glad you weren't ectopic either pinkyp

I'm glad the pain has gone.

However they really should have given you a scan.
Also bloods should have been done over 2 days to check for an increase in your hcg levels. One blood hcg level no matter how great they are can't tell you a pregnancy isn't ectopic.

I had an ectopic in December last year & i was already being seen at the epu & had several blood tests & scans & it was still missed. From my first appointment to the day of my OP it was around 3 weeks. Even when i turned up at a&e at 12.30am in a lot of pain & they felt my stomach they still insisted it didn't feel like an ectopic.

I lost my left tube & nearly my life (internal bleeding etc) because it was missed.

If for any reason you don't feel happy call up your epu & get a scan & more blood tests done.

Thanks serendipity. Sorry, I forgot to finish that sentence about levels! Yes, I know they need to take bloods across a few days to check that HCG levels are rising as they should. But she said that the pain would have been of a different kind and would have increased in intensity when she pressed my stomach - it didn't. The blood tests and levels seemed were normal/high for my stage of pregnancy, which was simply another good indicator rather than concrete proof. It was simply that my digestion had slowed down due to the progesterone and was causing me trouble.

When I said what tests they had done I just mean that the overall picture meant it was obvious to them that I was presenting very differently than someone would with an ectopic, so there was no need for a scan.

But if I do get any more pain of any kind I will immediately go back.

Thank you so much, and sorry to hear for your loss Sad
