I'm in quite a bit of pain at the moment and I don't know if I should bother the midwife with it or just take some painkillers. I'm 36+5 and I'm having all sorts of strange pains, most of which is in the pelvis. I can't lift my legs unless I actually manually lift them (when I'm sitting or lying down that is), it feels like a stabbing pain around my pelvis and my legs give way if I turn around. I'm also having alot of pressure on my cervix which is making me feel very tender down there. When I was in labour with ds1 I had a sensation that my legs were parting from my body and I'm having this same problem now. Sorry if this is going on but I'd hate to make an appointment to see my midwife just for her to dismiss it as nothing. Can anyone help, and is it o.k to take painkillers at this stage?

Could it be labour?but if not yes it is still fine to take normal doses of paracetamol ot this stage, maybe baby is on a nerve, has it engaged yet if not then maybe it just has.Do you have a bag packed yet just in case.

Bekki · 13/08/2003 21:51

I really wouldn't now what early labour is like as I was induced with ds1, I've just checked my bag and everything is ready though, just incase. Last Thursday I was told that the head was free and with ds1 the head didn't engage until labour was well under way. It may well be another big baby trying to engage, thanks Loobie I'll get the paracetamol and maybe I'll actually be able to sleep tonight.

Bekki - I understand how you feel in terms of being induced and therefore not knowing what early labour feels like, keep meaning to start a thread on it. However that aside at this point I wouldn't worry about disturbing your midwife, their advice can very quickly put your mind to rest.

Good luck .

Bekki you can certainly take paracetamol. I would definately see the midwife. The pain sounds like symphisis pubis dysfunction and your midwife could refer you to the physiotherapist for a support. Best to get it checked out.

Thanks Wills it is awful not knowing isn't it, I seem to think that i'm in labour every other day. I couldn't get the link to work and I searched but it wouldn't find it, thanks anyway pie. I slept alot better last night thanks to the paracetamol. I will make an appointment to see someone today, I'll mention spd as well. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks Wills, it sounds exactly like my symptoms. I saw a doctor yesterday and he said that pregnancy does cause some discomfort during the later stages. As if I wouldn't know that! I really wish I hadn't bothered now. He did prescribe me some painkillers though. I'll see my own gp next Friday for a routine ante-natal so hopefully I'll get some more sensible advice from him. At least its only for the last few weeks that I've got to put up with it, it must be torture having to cope from beginning to end.

It does sound like spd to me. I suffered with all 3 of my pregnancies.

I found sleeping in a more upright position helped the pain, as rolling over in bed at night was agony. When you get dressed, do it sitting down, not standing up. You might be able to get a support belt on prescription, but I didn't find it that helpful.

Make sure you research the best positions for labour as you could end up aggravating the condition.

HTH.
