saw my midwife tues, 2 weeks ago baby was breech, now bum appears to be in pelvis, she thinks the feet may be spread either side, hollow round bellybutton so probably back to back and static growth for 2 weeks so now well below the chart.
i have a scan tomorrow but im panicking, is this as serious as i think?
aaagh.

Don't panic. I was told my son was breech and underweight.

He turned and weighed 11( yes 11) lbs only 6 days after I was last told he was small. From 32 weeks on I had 2 scans- both said small and 1st one said breech and unlikely to turn. Both were wrong.

familyfun · 20/10/2010 20:17

im trying to lie on y side in bed and sit forward in the day but is there anyway i can turn the baby?

I've heard on all fours with chin virtually on floor, bum well in the air, encourages baby to tilt up out of the pelvis and then flip but that might be an old wives tale!

familyfun · 20/10/2010 20:25

im willing to try anything as i really want a natural birth if possible.

Wait for the scan. She may be wrong.

I was told my son was still breech. They felt the bump described what they could feel- assured me that he was breech- put the scan on-only to find out that he was perfectly positioned and nothing like they had felt only one minute before. I went through weeks of unnecessary worry.

If your baby is breech they will tell you what to do. I went in to have mine turned- only to find out he had turned himself.

Just don't panic- even if the baby is breech it will be fine- honestly

frakkinstein · 20/10/2010 20:29

Seems the theory has some backing - here for crawling instructions!

And an acquaintance's baby turned in a bodybalance class when she was doing a 3 legged downward facing dog (I think).

So it's definitely possible....

StrangewaysHereICome · 20/10/2010 20:29

I'm sure someone with more experience will come along soon - From memory I think getting on all fours and dropping your head towards the floor while keeping your bum in the air was meant to help a baby turn.

I hope it all works out for you - with my first I was told she was a whopper and she was just under 8lbs and with my second they were worried about her growth and she was just under 7lbs. Coincidently with my second they also thought she was back to back as I had a hollow belly button. I spent a lot of time on a birth ball bouncing around and she was a straightforward birth.

Best of luck.

its the static growth, below charts and back to back aswell that has sent me into a spin. plus arranging childcare to get dd to nursery and back while i go for scan.

cross posts there, it took me a while to type that one!!

IAPJJLPJ · 20/10/2010 20:31

I agree with all that has already been written.

I was large for dates with a frank breech baby.

I found that eating chocolate made him wriggle so the night before my date for him to be turned, I had ALOT of chocolate and when he started to fidget I got down on all fours.

He had turned by morning Grin

familyfun · 20/10/2010 20:32

ok going to try on all fours Hmm glad dd is asleep or she would be on my back Grin

familyfun · 20/10/2010 20:32

may try chocolate for medical purposes only of course Grin

I didn't feel my son turn. One scan said breech. Went back next week to have him turned only to find out that he already had.

moirasings · 20/10/2010 21:04

www.spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/breech-bottoms-up/about-breech for lots of good ideas for turning baby. My DD was an undetected footling breech and I had an easy vaginal birth, so try not to worry too much.

pushmepullyou · 20/10/2010 21:18

Posting on my phone so can't do links, but try googling 'breech tilt'. It involves lying on your back with your hips propped up and your legs up against a wall. I turned my DD using this (and some careful prodding!) at about 34 weeks.

Try not to worry about the growth either. Fundal height measurements are notoriously inaccurate and it may be that the baby's bum has engaged since your last appointment meaning that your measurements haven't gone up because it is now lower.

In our PCT they encourage you to have a vaginal birth with a full breech (when the bum is engaged), so even if it doesn't turn it may not be an automatic section

well i went and had my anti-d and had a scan, the baby is measuring approx 32 weeks and hasnt grown in 3 weeks, they gave me steroid injections and i have to go back 1st thing for the 2nd dose, then i will be scanned weekly and if at any point the cord isnt efficent or the baby doesnt grow they will induce me.
good news is baby was head down although a bit sideways so thanks for all tips, i was hands and knees all evening and slept on side and it seems to have worked.
heartbeat was strong and cord fine so im much happier than last night although i nearly cried when they said they wanted to give me steroids as i was thinking of my baby being born small and delicate.
thank you all for the support and i will be fingers crossed every thurs that the baby has grow a bit on the scan.

We've been going through just that, told at 30 wks that baby had stopped growing and blood flow through cord was absent and intermittent, was given steroids and warned might have to deliver......4 wks on and 2x wkly scans/dopplers and we're still going. Baby decided to start growing again and cord working ! Next doppler tomorrow. Growth scans usually only done every 2 wks to see a change, so I've been told. Good luck xx

familyfun · 22/10/2010 13:00

glad your baby is growing shocknews.
had 2nd steroids today, made me hot and sick, is that normal.
they are testing cord weekly and then growth scanning fortnightly yes.
said as long as cord fine they will leave me next week and following week at growth scan they need to see a big growth or they wil induce as measuring well below charts at moment. i will be 37 weeks then but currently measuring 32.

shocknews · 23/10/2010 18:05

Yes, steroids made me really flushed too !! Doppler on Friday was ok again. Dr happy still and says that as long as dopplers stay ok then we'll carry on. If dopplers go intermittent or absent again though, she'll go for c-section as I'm now 34 wks so baby is not far off cooked really, especially as I've had the steroids ! Next growth scan on Friday, so we'll find out more again then.

Good luck with the scans, don't worry too much, you've had the scans and although baby is possibly small (measuring 32 wks), it is still a 37 wk gestation in regards development, so usually won't have the same breathing probs as a 32 wkr. 37 wks is classed as full term, it'll be skinny, but I'm sure will soon catch up !! Keep us updated !

familyfun · 23/10/2010 20:12

been having major braxton hicks tonight and started to panic but have died off now.
going to get dp to get all th baby clothes out the loft to wash and sort so i feel ready, have all equipment and my stuff.

not sure when to order tens as it says put in due date and they will deliver at 37 weeks and you can keep it 4 weeks plus a 2 week extension if requested. but baby may come before 37 weeks so might alter my due date so it comes this week just in case.

also need to get nursing bras, how early can i get measured?

(Sorry to hijack, FF)

Does anyone know (or has anyone found out from experience) whether a breech tilt position is more effective if you are belly up, or belly down? I'm finding the belly-down poses really hard to sustain for more than a few seconds at a time. Haven't tried lying on my back with my bum in air yet, but had an idea it might be more comfortable!

I found out on saturday (at 33 wks) that baby is breech and they said a frank/extended breech, but there always seems to be a limb having a rummage in my groin area! Either he has three legs, or his hand is hanging down there. He is quite big for dates, too, and has been since 20 wk scan.
