Is that what the doctors normally recommend?

I think you can have more nowadays. I will be having my 3rd section soon and as the surgeon was sewing me up with my 2nd he said I was good for a few more down there yet!

sonamay · 20/10/2010 12:08

So, means they can see while operating? Thanks

I had my 3rd cs last year and was advised not to have any more, due to the risk of placental accretion in future pregnancies being higher due to the amount of scar tissue in and around the womb from the 3 cs. They do obviously deliver ladies by cs who have had 3 (or more) previous cs in a subsequent pregnancy, and each case may be different, but I think it is generally advised not to risk it.

Having met a lady whose placenta grew through her old cs scar in her womb onto her bladder, and the horrendous surgery required as a result (including 10 weeks bedrest in hospital prior to the early delivery of her baby due to the accretion) I am a little scared of placental accretion!

It is what they normally recommend, however a close friend has had 4 after discussing it with her Consultant.

HobbitMama · 20/10/2010 12:17

I'm having my 4th cs by Dec 8th at the latest, so it's definitely done, and the docs actually said I'd be back for another one in 2 years last time, whilst I was saying 'no way!' and here I am, 22 months later, about to have another - but definitely my last!
There are obviously added complications with each cs you have, but if all goes well, it should be fine.

discobeaver · 20/10/2010 12:20

I want a tummy tuck with my next one. Only had one so far though. Cs that is, not tt.

DomesticG0ddess · 20/10/2010 12:47

I know someone planning another child, and she has had 3 c-sections. So obviously she has the go ahead!

my sis had 3 C-Sections, she was adviced not to have any more, so she had her tubes tied. But she had an ectopic (tubectomy did'nt work, now I am not sure whether it was a tubectomy or just a ligature) and she had a keyhole surgery to have her tube removed (was ruptured with the ectopic) M y sis told me she will never go for another one even if the option is there cos she fears about any more uterine surgeries which she will have to have in future as she gets older (saying this cos my older sis had 2CS and a hysterectomy due to a tumour) also too many abdominal surgeriers can lead to hernias in future...

serendipity16 · 20/10/2010 16:49

I'm having my 4th c-section on or around the 24th of November.

At my first appointment with my consultant she did ask me if i wanted my tubes tied Shock , which had never been mentioned before so i was a little shocked when she asked.
I did say no though as if all goes well, i'd like another baby.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 20/10/2010 17:10

Michelle Duggar from "19 Kids and Counting" (look it up on YouTube) has had 4 CSs.

A friend of mine had a VBAC after 3 CSs, too. It can be done...

alfiemama · 20/10/2010 18:31

I'm due my 3rd section on 9th Nov, and they asked me about tying my tubes. To which I replied "No where ok thank you" my husband thought it was like I was saying no to car insurance Grin but the mw did say they have just had someone in who has had her 7th section Shock. She did stress that they do not recommend this.

HobbitMama · 21/10/2010 12:04

thanks sonamay - good luck to you too serendipity and alfiemama! I do have to admit to being slightly nervous, but once the spinal's in I'll be fine! That's always the worst bit for me! :)

faverghoulles · 21/10/2010 12:39

I'm having my 4th CS in January.
I spoke to my consultant about placental accretion, and she said that it can happen after 1 CS too, and that the risk does increase slightly with more CS, but it's still very rare.

I hadn't spoken to a MW or consultant before this PG, so was a bit worried about what they might say, but everyone has been very positive about it.

alfiemama · 21/10/2010 13:50

Thanks HobbitMama. Must admit I'm really nervous this time also. With my second son (elective) he had a heart condition, so really didn't think about myself at all.
But I'm sure we will all be fine, good luck ladies.
