Strange sore, achey, crampy pain at 35 weeks, which is constant

Hi there,

I am a bit worried... the last few days I have had light crampy sore pains which have come and gone. This didn't bother me much as I assumed they were just my womb getting ready sort of like light BHs. However last night I couldn't sleep because the pain (which is tolerable) was just so constant and sore - same kind of achey crampy sharp pain - but not coming and going.

I phoned the hospital and they said I could come in but they were very busy and I would have to wait a while - plus, since there were no signs of labour and no bleeding they didn't think it would be serious and I could just phone my midwife in the morning.

I have left a message for my midwife, but not an emergency service, and they may not get back to me till tomorrow. The pain is still there but doesn't seem quite as bad. Do you think I should follow this up and try to see someone, or only worry if it gets worse. I wonder if it is just things stretching? My little one seems to be moving as normal

If your mw doesn't get back to you in the next few hours I would phone labour ward or the midwifery team at the hospital again, they may be less busy today and say that you haven't been able to contact your midwife.

I'm 34 weeks today and have had a couple episodes of this recently. They lasted from a couple minutes to a few hours of on and off lower back, crampy, period-like pain. This happened over a period of a few days. When I spoke to the labour ward they told me if it was labour it would have progressed and turned into "something". They told me to rest the remainder of that day (hard with toddler but had DH come home) as it could be I irritated my uterus by over-doing it. Also to drink a lot of water to keep urinary tract clear.

I was told to call labour ward again if pain didn't go away or got worse. It was much better after a day of proper rest. I have had a couple other shorter bouts of this since but they generally ease off. I woke up with them yesterday morning, but they were gone by breakfast.

I saw midwife yesterday, as scheduled, and she said it's normal. If I had any concerns, call labour ward, etc. It is concerning b/c it feels like early labour and isn't how typical BH are described. But, appears that it can be normal. Definitely call labour ward if you are worried or want to be checked out.

Thanks J Fly, I feel a bit better now... they do seem to have eased off. I think I will just see how I go for a bit and if it gets worse again I will call them.

I did wonder whether it was kind of stretching pains.... and prob fairly normal. I am a bit loathed to actually go to the hospital as I know that they are very busy with this baby boom and it is about 30 mins away - I only want to bother them if I think something is really wrong...

Thanks again
