Painful antenatal check

Hi all,
I had a 14 week antenatal check today, and the doctor gave me quite a thorough stomach and pelvis exam that was actually really painful, so much so that I said ouch. Now, a few hours later I have a dull pain just inside my pelvis and now I am worrying (probably due to this pregnancy following on from 2 miscarriages) that the exam might have hurt the baby, which I hope is a ridiculous worry as it was a doctor doing the exam and he would know what sort of pressure to use, wouldn't he?
Please reassure me ladies, freaking out here..

I think docs and midwifes can be quite rough. I always feel sore afterwards, and also after scans.

I haven't had a rough pelvic exam but my scan really hurt a lot!!! They press very hard!!

Keep your eye on it and see how you feel tomorrow. If the pain gets any worse then go to A&E though, even if it's just for the reassurance then it will help.

Next time you go to the doctors, explain how the exams make you feel and ask them to go easy.

why wass he givng you a abdomen and pelvic exam at only 14 weeks? this isn't common practice anymore.

Sorry you had a rough time, naitimum, and hope everything's OK (sure it will be - once pregnancies are established baby's a pretty robust).

Before you go back you might want to arm yourself with these phrases by Mary Cronk - I'm thinking No. 6 would be particularly pertinent at this point :)

(You can also always ask why they want to do it - if they're not prepared to explain such that I understand what they're looking for and what they're going to do with that knowledge then I wouldn't be letting them even get started)

I felt quite bruised after my first scans, I don't remember having an examination though. But definitely it hurt for a couple of days afterwards (am 36 weeks now).

I always find doctors quite rough too and after my recent 30 weeks scan was quite in pain. Kept telling the scan operator that it hurt too. Provided by stomach and pelvis that you don't mean an internal exam ( which surely wouldn't have been done at that stage) I woudl very much doubt any harm can be done to baby who is so very small at that age and well protected in your womb.

Thanks ladies. My surgery say on their guidelines that you should see a doctor at 14 weeks for a booking appointment. Which is bizarre as I had a booking appointment at home with my midwife at about 9 weeks. When I rung up to ask reception if I needed to book this they said yes but seemed pretty unsure too. In my distant hazy baby brain memory I think my midwife was saying it wasn't a necessity, but it's done now.. I still have a dull pain just inside my pelvic bone. It certainly hasn't increased in pain though but me and ds1 are going to take it easy today as I feel a bit emotional and worried. Oh by the way ladies, it was definitely external!!
Thanks for the phrases Tangle, I'll bear them in mind.
right, am going to try and go and calm down now after your words of support. Thanks everyone. x
