Can I eat a meat feast pizza?

Got a frozen one, is the meat on top ok to eat? I know not to eat cold deli meats, what about pizza toppings?

Cooked and hot is safe, far as I know.

But wouldn't you prefer a nice margherita? Smile

Ok so I'm a veggie.

notnowbernard · 18/10/2010 11:11

Why ever not?

discobeaver · 18/10/2010 11:14

Just wondering because the meat is already cooked isn't it, and then you re-heat it.

I mean I can't eat salami from the deli, so what about pepperoni on a pizza?

I just wondered because it isn't fresh meat that's being cooked. Ok I'm paranoid.

I do like a nice margherita though, Co-op do a great one.

You can re-heat meat once. So cooked pizza is fine. Cooked, then cold, then heated again the next day is not fine, technically speaking.

japhrimel · 18/10/2010 11:18

Salami from the deli is cured but not cooked, that's the issue.

I should think that if you make sure it's piping hot it'd be okay.

NoahAndTheWhale · 18/10/2010 11:18

I used to eat salami when pregnant.

Labella77 · 18/10/2010 12:37

i've just had a salami sandwich

xkatyx · 18/10/2010 12:43

I eat tons of salami love it, i have a book that sais it's fine!!

TooImmature2BMum · 18/10/2010 12:44

I thought cured meats were fine? I've been eating smoked salmon (mmm!) and had a meat feast pizza last week.

japhrimel · 18/10/2010 14:16

Gaa, who can keep up? I don't eat meat anyway so haven't double checked on the deli meat front.

SparklyJules · 18/10/2010 14:17

Yes you can eat a meat feast pizza - just watch out for the heartburn afterwards!

knittakid · 18/10/2010 17:20

The meat they put on those has been more than cooked 'just in case', and as such as far removed from normal meat as it can be, so I don't see how could anything bad (or good) survive in it.
(sorry, but worked in pizza hut and you could even eat the meat without cooking it as it had already been cooked, then frozen, and then re-cooked... nice).

DomesticG0ddess · 18/10/2010 17:24

Yes you can, but not sure why you would want to [hgrin]

Casserole · 20/10/2010 10:32

This is a wind up. Isn't it? Please tell me it is.

CUNextTuesday · 20/10/2010 13:15

Grin casserole are you enjoying your fresh air pie and boiled bottled water?

discobeaver · 20/10/2010 14:51

Why would it be a wind up? I am concerned about the types of meat I can eat while pregnant. What about the prosciutto thread, that a wind up too? You sound very smug.

But it's a pizza. That you are going to cook in the oven.

discobeaver · 20/10/2010 15:34

I know it's going to be cooked, but my point was the frozen/chilled meat toppings have probably already been cooked once, and then chilled/frozen, there was doubt in my mind whether the reheating would still pose a risk.

Cooked things can still be a risk, can't they?

Not everyone is as confident as you, casserole. It's not nice to come on asking for advice only to be told you are a joke.

Do be careful with pizza - we had a handmade one from Asda and some scum bucket there infected me with a tummy bug. Cramps so bad I was in the labour ward all night because they thought it was labour!

I wouldnt touch a pizza again after that. And this one was just cheese.

kiwidreamer · 20/10/2010 17:16

But surely heating it to the correct temps kills the bugs... or isnt it all bugs??

You can get a tummy bug by touching something a tummy bug person has and accidentally transfering it, if it were properly heated its highly unlikely the tummy bug came from the pizza surely.

Mammie81 · 20/10/2010 17:56

I dont think heating kills all bugs. It depends on cooking temperature, length of cooking and how many bugs there were in the first place.

However in relation to the OP, the meat on a pizza is totally precooked and fine. I'd just make sure it was a well WELL done pizza!

Casserole · 21/10/2010 14:44

Heating food to the correct temperature and for the correct time as given on the cooking instructions will kill pretty much all food-bourne bacterial nasties. It won't matter how many bacteria they are as they're not killed one at a time if you get me, once you get to the required temperature, they all pretty much cark it at once.

Don't forget to preheat your oven though. Otherwise it's not guaranteed that it's been at the right temperature long enough.
