Second blighted ovum and devastated

I'm currently going through a second miscarriage (first was in June this year), both blighted ovums. The EPU have said they will refer me to a clinic for some tests. Has anyone been through similar and what were the reasons/causes? Also how was it treated? Did you go on to have a successful pregnancy? I have to say, I am blessed as already have a beautiful 4 year old so I know I;m very lucky.

With the first miscarriage, I just put it down to bad luck and was ok really. This time, I'm absolutely devastated because there is definitely something wrong.

Sorry I don't have any experience, just wanted to say how sorry I am for you. I recently had a mmc and I know it's devestating. Fingers crossed they are able to find out the cause and hopefully sort it out for you.

Take care of yourself.

My first two pregnancies ended at 10 weeks with blighted ovum, i was devestated. My third pregnancy resulted in my lovely 4 year old ds so there is hope. I am now 26 weeks with my dd!

I just had my second mc too. I am feeling exactly the same as you, and I have a 2yr old DD. Join us on the recurrent buns thread in miscarriage. Lots of the women there can give you hope.

There may not be anything wrong. I had 2 mmc in-between 3-4. Now sat here with my 10 day old dd who I was 3rd time lucky with.

So sorry to hear that. I have only had one mc. But I wanted to say that you mustn't assume that there is definitely something wrong. It is perfectly possible to have two mcs in a row, even though horribly bad luck. I hope you have more luck next time.

Hi and really sorry to hear your news.

Firstly its is not that unusual. My first two pregnancies were both Blighted Ovums - 1st Oct 09 picked up at 12 weeks scan which was horrible. Second in Feb 2010 picked up at 9 week scan. Had ERPC with both. I also have one friend who had another two cons BO's and one who had three! Hospital simply said it happens very early on and normally random, either egss/sperm don't connect properly or egg/sperm is not quite right which normally is a one off random event! Two they desbribed to me as really bad luck!. That doesn't mean its any easier to deal with - its not! I also know from having two BO's and no healthy pregnancies the feeling that there is def something wrong! One question however - was it the EPU who said there was def something wrong or your feeling?????

The good bit - both friends now have two healthy children and I'm currenty 28 weeks with third pregnancy - albeit bricking myself! so there is hope - although know it won't feel like it a present!

From thinking there was something wrong and being over 35, I got referred for tests to see if there was a problem. Early tests involved blood tests being done at doctors at different times of my cycle and analysed. They also tested hubby's output! All those tests they do first to rule out any basic problem before they go further. With me they all came back fine. We kept TTC and got pregnant again before they did any more testing and alll was put on hold and still is :o

Very happy to give more info if needed! But it does not necessarily mean there is a problem and there are plenty of positive stories out there! Give yourself some weeks and space, hormones will settle down and you will heopfully feel a little better! But it is a good idea to get the tests - at least you will feel like you can take a little control!
