Horrible heat rash - any remedies?

I've got the most horrible heat rash atm (at least, I'm assuming that's what it is) - does anyone have any ideas for soothing it? It's itchy (not all the time though, seems to be off and on) and is on my inner thighs, top of my arms, outside of elbows, sides of my feet a bit and the palms of my hands. I've been really trying not to scratch but it's very difficult and I have succumbed a bit, resulting in raised bumps on my arms and legs today, so I know I've made it worse. I've been wearing as few clothes as pos, haven't been leaving the house while it's hot, have spent a lot of time in a darkened room but it's not going. Anything else I can try? When is this weather going to end? Surely I shouldn't need to go to the doctor, I really am pretty sure it must be a heat rash since it's in hot areas and I've no other symptoms. Does anyone think I should? Nothing else wrong with me, feel fine etc, just rashy and I'm not really surprised given the heat. I'm 26 weeks pregnant and very fed up with it! I've tried emulsifying ointment since that's all we had in the house but it wasn't any help at all. Would Calamine be better? TIA for any ideas.

Thanks Batters, I'm glad your life is this exciting and you have recently discussed rashes! I think I will go to the doctor tomorrow then in case this is a fungal thing. Can't stand it much longer tbh!

so sorry to hear this, www. it seems like all the toddlers at ds's nursery, including him, have this. they're not worried (miracle - they normally send children home for the slightest thing). anyway, what we are doing for him is liberal applications of calamine lotion twice a day, and letting him run round without clothes as far as possible. other than that, we are praying for the weather to change - even though we are going on holiday next week! hope you find a solution soon. sshhhh being pregnant is awful.... shhh!

Sounds just like what i had when I was preg with DS. I was about 34wks tho, but it was boiling.
lavender baths helped. a couple of drops in some (5 or 10 mls) milk into your bath if I remember rightly.Health food shop helped out
Doctor gave be some bath stuff too, but that was dead oily & olny worked for short periods.Sorry can't remember what it was called.
I had cream too, but sticky. in the end another doc gave me piriton tablets which solved it straight away, but I guess at 26 wks that is something you should check with GP 1st.
Other than that cool baths & a fan.

i used lanacane powder on dd's bad heat rash although you probably could not use it on your palms - should be all right for the other areas - I would check with your chemist or your doctor to be sure... just for your own peace of mind.

Yes please go to docs. Don't want to scare you but there's a V. small chance it could be obstectric cholestasis (liver function prob). You are probably too early in your pregnancy for it tbe this, but I had it with my ds and it does affect palms of hands and soles of feet. But please don't get too stressed by the thought it could be anything worse than heat rash because that's very likely what it is. However, for peace of mind a doc's appointment might be a good idea.
I know this cos I am five weeks pregnant today, itching madly again and about to go to the docs for the same reason in 45 mins...

Wickedwaterwitch - BTW when I went to docs this morning she said nearly everyone she had seen that mornings had been in about itchy skin - must be something in the air! She recommended calamine.
