Throughout my whole pregnancy i have been fine saying im not bothered about the labour this time as it went fine last time but now since ive had a few weeks left im suddenly really panicking about it and i dont know why!

I have spent the last 10 weeks just wanting baby out and wishing to go into labour asap but now when i get a twinge i sort of panic and think 'oh crap is this is?' is this normal as i dont remember feeling like this first time around and would have thought if anything i would feel better about doing it second time around!

same here, i keep putting it to the back of my mind but i have less than 6 weeks left so it keeps creeping back, esp when i had to walk past labour ward last week i just want my baby out too.

I have 3 weeks left and this is my 4th. I have been very chilled about labour throughout until a couple of weeks ago when I started to panic a little. But all I keep thinking about is the end result. Chin up. Think of the lovely little bundle at the end and it should get you through. Smile

I am only 21 weeks and I am terrified of labour!!! Its my first but I am seriously scafred xL

I can understand. I thought I wasn't worried then when I was actually in labour & having to push I was scared as I knew what was coming. I told the mw & she was very good at talking me through it.

No other advice I'm afraid, I read all books, had a home water birth & still felt scared!

I think it's normal to be scared, yummy. My due date for DC2 was today and I have definitely been antsy about going into labour over the last few weeks. Know what's coming during labour, know what's coming afterwards with the sleepless nights, etc. WHo wouldn't be a little bit scared??!!

don't worry about labour the second time round. I was terrified and was 11 days overdue so built myself up into a frenzy. But when it came to it, I knew so much more about how to cope with it, and honestly the second time was fine. Delivered in about 2 hours after first real contraction. Just G&A compared with a full spinal block with DS1 and about 10 mins after delivery I was walking down to the ward, having had a shower en route. Good Luck, all you who are waiting and congratulations on your lovely new babies to be

I know what you mean - the longing to see your baby is so strong that you sort of forget about how baby is going to arrive!

Pootletrinket · 18/10/2010 08:23

I'm in denial - with my first, I was chilled and thought "this is natural, my body will know how to cope" but the medical intervention made it very very unnatural and now my fear is that my body hasn't done it before - had to have drugs and drips and then forceps and nasties and quite frankly, the thought of it sends me into the heebie jeebies. I was treated like a second class citizen and lied to by some of the 'professionals' around me - this time, at 15 weeks, I'm happily in denial, will think about it nearer the time (if I have to!!) and am trying to establish good r/ship with my (apparently much nicer and much more understanding) midwife.

I'm 22 weeks with my second and (so far) I'm not too nervous about it. My MW had a lovely analogy about second labours- 'The channel tunnel took a lot of drilling but the trains rush through it now'. Not very flattering but strangely reassuring Grin

I've talked my first birth through with a few friends and HCPs and this time I am hoping for a home birth so I will be more relaxed. Maybe if you go through the things you didn't like about your first labour then try and come up with possible solutions it will make you feel a bit better?
